There ia an idea amonst some that if you have a certain condition or follow a certain lifestyle that you should belong to a "community". I remember many years ago discussing this with a gay couple I knew who insisted they did not want to belong to the "Gay Community" altho' they were openly gay they felt no need to belong to a community, as they did not want to be dictated to, as to how to think and behave. They did not go to gay pubs or clubs. They said they led a normal boring suburban life, going to work 5 days a week, the supermarket on Saturday, a walk in the country on Sunday, and were quite happy to be considered a part of the "suburban community". Freda I think considers deaf people should belong to the "deaf community" and should adopt the community's values, to the extent that she is a bit intolerant of others who do not think this way.Quote:
