Janet Devlin is the 11/4 favourite to win The X Factor, with William Hill taking their first four-figure bet on the Northern Irish singer.

"After Boot Camp last year, we saw a number of four-figure bets for Matt Cardle, which propelled him to the top of the betting, where he stayed until he won the show," a spokesperson for Hills said. "The omens certainly bode well for Janet."
Various other odds to win currently offered include Jade Richards at 7/1, Frankie Cocozza at 12/1, Misha Bryan at 14/1 and Sami Brooks at 20/1

The X Factor live shows will kick off with a two-and-a-half-hour broadcast on October 8.

This weekend, viewers will see Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh choose their finalists during the Judges' Houses stage of the competition.

Reports previously claimed that the current series could include three-hour live shows. Last year, the first live show ran for two hours and 40 minutes, and featured a twist which saw four wildcard competitors unveiled. It has not been confirmed if a similar twist will take place during the current series.

According to Radio Times listings, the first live show will run from 7.30pm to 10pm on Saturday, October 8, with the results show following on Sunday, October 9 from 8pm to 9pm. Ratings winner Downton Abbey will continue its second series following the results show at 9pm

As with previous winners, Matt Cardle is expected to return to perform his new single 'Run For Your Life'. Other musical guests and a theme for the first show have still to be announced.

Yesterday, ITV confirmed that 49-year-old Goldie Cheung has withdrawn from the competition, after mentor Louis Walsh chose her as one of his finalists.

The X Factor continues with a Judges' Houses double bill this weekend on ITV1.

I don't think I'll bother watching. All judges made wrong decisions on who they put through. Louis has completely lost the plot putting johnny and Kitty through. Another Wagner and Katie from last year. Jade and Joe Cox should have went trough not Frankie he's got up my nose from his first audition. The only one I think who will be a surprise is Jonjo Kerr

Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland chose Misha Bryan, Janet Devlin, Sophie Habibis and Amelia Lily to be the four girls that she will mentor in the girls' category.

Kelly told Jade: "When I saw you the first time you moved me to tears. You have this incredible voice ... and it's in you because you come from so much emotion you know but sometimes there is a wall up."

But she wasn't given a place in the live finals.

Emotional wannabe Luke Lucas was hoping to get through to the next round, and said: "I can't explain in words how much I want this."

But it was Frankie Cocozza, Marcus Collins, Craig Colton and James Michael who will be mentored by Gary Barlow in the boys' category.

Gary told Luke that he was diappointed by his performance at judges' house.

And the Take That singer told Frankie: "I've really enjoyed every performance. From the first time you sang, you made us laugh with your funny stories. You've got a great personality; you kind of want to be in your gang."

The 18-year-old said: "I've always wanted to be a performer, there's nothing better than people clapping and cheering you. Yesterday I wanted to prove that I wasn't just here because of my antics in the first audition, and I was talented and I could perform. I think I've done that.


Tulisa Contostavlos put through 2 Shoes, Rhythmix, Nu Vibe and The Risk.

Only one of the groups - 2 Shoes - entered the competition as a fully formed group. The rest entered as solo singers and were put together by the judges.

Tulisa told Rhythmix: "Girls, you've got something different about you; you've got an urban edge."

The over 25s – who will be mentored by Louis Walsh - were revealed as Sami Brookes, Kitty Brucknell, Jonjo Kerr and Johnny Robinson.

But there was no place for Terry Winstanley.


Louis shocked Kitty when he told her: "You can sing, you can definitely, definitely sing. And you're a very passionate girl and you so want this, I can tell that. But the thing that worries me is I think you will be a nightmare to work with.

Kitty admitted that Louis had taken a risk and explained: "A lot of people don't really get me as an artist, you either love me or you hate me."

Craig and Samantha are my favs this year hope they do well.

The theme and special guests have been confirmed for the first X Factor Live Show.

All 16 contestants will be tackling tracks from a 'UK v US' back catalogue when the show kicks off on Saturday night at 7.30pm on ITV1.

Complementing the theme are special guests from the UK and US. Last year's X Factor winner Matt Cardle will be giving a live performance of his single 'Run For Your Life' as he attempts to top the UK singles chart for the second time.

Meanwhile, Cee Lo Green will be representing the US with a special performance of his latest track 'Cry Baby'.

Frankie Cocozza, Kitty Brucknell, Amelia Lily and Janet Devlin are among the 16 hopefuls currently preparing themselves for Saturday's first live show.

The X Factor airs on Saturday at 7.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm on ITV1. Olly Murs and Caroline Flack's The Xtra Factor follows immediately after both shows.

The X Factor judges will each have to eliminate one of their own acts after the first live show this weekend, it has been revealed.

The surprise twist will see Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh vote off one of the four artists in their respective categories on Sunday night, following Saturday night's performances.

There will consequently be no viewer vote for the first weekend, where the final 16 will become the final 12.

The judges informed the acts of the twist on Thursday, with Rowland telling the hopefuls: "We want you to put your best foot forward, make the decision hard for us and let us know why you need to stay."

Contostavlos assured the finalists that the judges' decisions will be based solely on Saturday's performances.

"Please understand all of you that none of us have made our decision," the N-Dubz singer said. "It's a clean slate and we are making our decision as if we have never seen you before."

Walsh added: "It's a level playing field - we want to see your passion, we want to see a star, it's all to play for."

Barlow explained: "We thought rather than wait until Saturday night we'll talk about the twist. This is the X Factor stage - it's one thing singing by the pool but it all changes here. This is where stars are born, like Leona. It's all going to feel very different on Saturday."

In this year's series, Barlow will oversee the Boys, Rowland will look after the Girls, Contostavlos has been given the Groups, and Walsh has landed the Overs.

The X Factor airs on Saturday at 7.30pm on ITV1. The Xtra Factor follows at 10pm on ITV2.

The X Factor finalists will record a cover of Rose Royce's 1978 hit 'Wishing on a Star' for this year's charity single.

All 16 acts to reach the Live Shows of the ITV1 singing competition will appear on the track, which will be released next month. All proceeds from the song will benefit ACT & Children's Hospices UK.

"I've seen the amazing work they do for kids and their families who need help and support," said X Factor creator Simon Cowell.

"I am thrilled that the X Factor charity single this year will benefit this charity."

Meanwhile, finalist Kitty Brucknell also expressed her excitement for the project, saying: "It's incredible to be able to give something back and hopefully help a lot of people."

Frankie Cocozza added: "[It's a] brilliant thing to be doing for a brilliant charity."

'Wishing on a Star' will serve as the fourth charity single release by X Factor finalists. It follows last year's successful cover of David Bowie's 'Heroes' and 2009's chart-topping version of Michael Jackson's 'You Are Not Alone'.

ACT and Children's Hospices spokesperson Barbara Gelb said: "The money raised from this single gives us the opportunity to improve the lives of these children and families.

"Every single bought, either online or through the High Street, will make such a difference."
