No, he's supposed to be old-skool. Kind of like a gangster but not really a nasty one like Andy was.

i wouldnt describe dennis as a gangster
Dennis and Jake don't really count, they can be used in many different ways.
Johnny is more retired now.
I started a threat yesterday about Johnny along the same lines - are EE just trying to show us the other side to Johnny, the family side, before we see more of the "gangster" side again.
I think he's in retirement though, he seems to respect the community.

I think he's in retirement though, he seems to respect the community.Yeah, i don't think he's a gangster and he was being really nice to Dot and Jim about rent of something
people dent like the gangster cus they were so one sided...pure evil no good
jonny is different as they are showing a different side to gangsters, and that adds someting to his character
i agree, they are showiung his sensative side so as we'll be shocked when he becomes evil after the fire...

I don't think he is a gangster but he's not cold hearted. He showed remorse for Andy's murder more than once.

Gangsters can have caring sides take The Godfather for example family meant everything to Don Corleone, so maybe eastenders are just showing that side to Johnny, but we also know he is a ruthless killer after all he pushed Andy of the bridge. As far as Danny and Jake are concerned they are NOT Gangsters, I dont find them very villianous at all, Dennis is no Gangster , I know he shot Dalton but he is no gangster nor is Den, as to whether Johnny Allen is I would say yes, he's very much old-school.

I think Andy set fire to his house though so I think it's fair! (In that sort of world anyway, I wouldn't go round doing it myself!)

that is the thing with Gangsters.. they have true affection for their family and will only be rough when it gets personal.. Andy lacked that nice side and it is a reason he was not believable

Andy didn't... he just double crossed Johnny on a deal.. Andy was also nasty to Alfie and Johnny didn't like that at all...

Well he had a history with Andy and Andy was his rival so it's easily understandable he could have been mixed up with Jack Dalton. We'll know even more when Dennis comes back.
i think Johnny allen wants to move on from been a Gangster

Maybe he really got sacked because he didn't do the job well enough. Johnny lived to tell the tale!

I think they didn't show enough of Andy's nice side on the show but in general he didn't really have a hard gangster look about him... he look too innocent.. Johnny has the hardman look about him as do Phil, Grant and Den.. Andy never had that look and he was the only one that EE didn't show a nice side too...
