View Full Version : Corrie's Bill Roache: 'I won't re-marry'
Coronation Street star Bill Roache has confirmed that he will not consider re-marrying following the sudden death of his wife last month.
Sara Roache passed away at the couple's home in Cheshire on February 8. She was 58.
In his first interview about his loss, Roache, who plays Ken Barlow on the ITV1 soap, has admitted that he cannot imagine committing himself to another partner.
"I wouldn't consider re-marrying. It would be impossible to match the marriage I had," he told the Daily Mail. "She was perfection to me and that could never be attained again. She was my best friend, and my greatest critic.
"And we never stopped talking, right to the end. Our relationship was a 35-year conversation, and I will always have those memories."
Roache returned to work two weeks ago but has revealed that, on his third day back, he struggled to cope with scenes involving his character's new romance.
"During a break, I went to my dressing room and cried my heart out," he explained. "There are moments when I think Sara will walk in the room. I think that if I ring her mobile she will answer.
"I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of days we spent apart. I would always drive home after engagements even if I didn't get back until the early hours. She was always there."
The actor has previously paid tribute to his late wife at a public memorial service last month.
Must be dificult for him :(
And premature.
He has only just lost his wife, why would he be thinking of remarrying?
In a few years time he may feel differently, or he may feel the same.
Now is the time to grieve, don't commit yourself to a future alone forever, you may want to change your mind later. If he does change his mind at sometime in the future it would not be a slur on his dead wife.

Its too soon for interviews let alone talk of remarrying :thumbsdow

Some people feel the need to tell the world about their loved one. If that's helping Bill to cope with his grief then so be it. He wouldn't have given the interviews if he wasn't up to it.

Yeah, he wont want to remarry this minute, he has just lost his wife... the thought of being with someone else, will be the last thing he wants, I imagine...
But I can see his point, he is in his 70s anyway...sooooo I cant see him wanting to remarry... its not like he is a young man with a lot of years ahead of him, and a young family to bring up. He is probably set in his ways and not wanting to spend his remaining days with another partner.

What idiot asked him a question like that, of course he is not thinking of remarrying at this time but that's not to say in the future he may find another partner. At the moment they should leave the man alone and let him greive
My OHs grandmother lost her husband at 45. She met another man on a cruise when she was 87 - yes EIGHTY-SEVEN - they married and they had a lovely 8 years together before he died. She went on to live to 102.
Bill has stated he won't get married again. He has not said that he will never entertain a relationship with another woman ever again. No need to get married these days unless Bill is old-fashioned and would not live with a partner unless they are married.

Aw bless see that's what love is all about, what's meant for you won't go past you even at 87.
Bill Roache has revealed that he has given up sex after becoming involved in a spiritual group called the Pure Love Movement.
The 81-year-old Coronation Street actor previously admitted to sleeping with up to 1,000 women.
After splitting with girlfriend Emma Jesson late last year, Roache revealed that his womanising past had not made him happy.
Roache told The Sun that he no longer needs sex in his life as he is occupied with his involvement in the sect, which believes that love can cure illness and end suffering.
He said: "I don't need a sexual relationship any more. Things still work, everything works, but I don't have that need for sex I used to have.
"This is the time when I have to look at the priorities of things. I have the Pure Love message which I am very privileged to be involved in.
"That, as well as Coronation Street, is up all my energy and time. As the message takes off I can see it becoming fairly all-consuming."
Roache is now acting as a "healer" for the group, which is based in Cheshire and led by a retired nurse. Although Pure Love only has 13 members currently, it is inviting members of the public to join sessions in Altrincham for £5.
He explained: "I perform healings in the interval. I place my hands over people's heads or their shoulders and let the energy of love flow through me into them - it gives them a lovely calm feeling.
"Miracles can happen in healings. I heard about one lady who was suffering from cancer, who was cured instantly. I think we'll see more of that soon.
"I could put my hands on someone and cure them of something really serious. But that will only happen if it will help the message to be heard."
Roache said that the group is sure its message will spread, as it can reach "far more people than Jesus could" thanks to Facebook and Twitter.
He added: "We are confident we can spread this to a large number of people. And then the world will become a more beautiful place, just naturally.
"In the golden age there will be a lot of laughter, a lot of fun and no rules or regulations. People will want to be loving and caring. They won't want to do evil things.
"The police won't be needed because society will be self-adjusting. There will be no need for laws or politicians, no need for governments.
"People will naturally all want the same thing and they will live happily in little groups and help each other. It will be beautiful but it needs to happen quickly."
There are some things that don't really need sharing with the press,
Coronation Street star Bill Roache will allow a psychic to talk to his dogs live on television.
The 80-year-old actor, who recently admitted that he has given up sex, will appear on ITV's This Morning tomorrow (March 12) when he will try to communicate with his dogs Poppy and Harry via animal psychic Jackie Weaver.
Speaking about animal psychic Jackie Weaver, Roache told The Sun: "Jackie said Poppy even did an impersonation of my on-screen wife Deirdre, saying, 'Oh, Ken' in a drawn-out, exasperated way.
"I wasn't aware Jackie had ever watched me in the show. I had a great deal to learn about this animal world."
Roache's appearance is part of the show's supernatural week which starts today.
The actor recently split from his girlfriend Emma Jesson after his spiritual beliefs reportedly drifted them apart. He is said to be a member of religious group the Pure Love Movement.
