THERE’S certainly sum resemblance here! Maths whizz Carol Vorderman breaks off filming her final Countdown show to pose with her daughter Katie.

The 16-year-old — studying double-maths, physics and chemistry — said: “I hope I am a chip off the old block.”

Carol, 47, is leaving the Channel 4 favourite after 26 years because bosses demanded she take a huge pay cut. She said outside the Leeds studios: “It is like a party in there.”

I'm sure the last one is transmitted in December sometime. Today must have just been the last day of filming for her.

The end of an era.

The last one is December 12th, I shall be tuning in, there's an accompanying documentary going with it.

I am pleased for Carol and her achievement, however, she is not my favourite person and I am glad she will be on tv just that little bit less.

CAROL Vorderman’s last episode of Countdown will be shown on Channel 4 today.
The number-crunching presenter, who filmed the show last month, will dish out her final consonants and vowels after 26 years on the quiz.

Cambridge graduate Carol, who made her name on Channel 4’s first flagship show in 1982 with the late Richard Whiteley, will also be honoured in One Last Consonant, Please, Carol.

The tribute, hosted by Gyles Brandreth, will go out after the show and will feature her mum Edwina as well as Carol herself.

Carol will be replaced by Oxford University graduate Rachel Riley, 22, in the new series which begins in January.

Presenter Des O’Connor is being replaced by Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling.

Definitely will be watching today

I saw both programmes, the tribute to Carol and Countdown itself. Very moving and emotional.

I have to say, however, that I do find Channel 4 a tad hypocritical. They more or less gave Carol the sack and then gave her a half hour tribute programme...hmmmm....:hmm:

They did offer her a new contract, but at a vastly reduced rate, one that a lot of us would not have any problems accepting. She did not. Her choice and I am sure she will grace our screens again very soon, if not to advertise some credit company or cholesterol reducing product.

Aww I nearly cried when she did

I did  I am a very emotional person and get embarrassed at times but better to show emotion than to be a hard hearted so-and-so, imo.

It was something like a 90% reduction in her salary which they must have known she would not accept. That's why I said they more or less sacked her.

Miss Vorderman earned £1.2million a year for 40 days’ work. I would have accepted a 90% pay cut.

I don't think you would have.

That would leave you with a salary of £120,000 compared to £1.2 million. Yes, you as Perdita, earning whatever it is you are earning now, might be happy to have £120,000 for 40 days' work, but when someone has been used to a salary of £1.2 million it's just a big slap in the face.

Incidentally, for the record, I am totally opposed to these sorts of salaries being paid to TV stars, celebrities, entertainers and the like. All I am saying is that Channel 4 knew exactly what the outcome would be when they offered her a 90% cut.

Hmmm thats a true point
So really they just didnt have the balls to sack her themselves

I agree with your point, you are right, it is easy for me as Perdita to say I would be happy with about £100,00 for 40 days work. I just can't imagine that Carol would have turned the job down at the reduced rate if she knew she would not have any further advertising jobs or other things she might have lined up for the future.
