Jack P. Shepherd to become a father

Jack P. Shepherd and girlfriend Lauren Shippey are expecting their first child, reports the News Of The World.

A friend of Shepherd, who plays David Platt on Coronation Street, is quoted as saying: "He hasn't been able to take the smile off his face since he found out. Both of them reckon it's the best news ever."

Shepherd's castmates Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw) and Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) will also become dads later this year.

Thomas is dating former co-star Tina O'Brien, who played David's sister Sarah-Louise on the ITV1 soap from 1999 to 2007.

As much as I wish Jack and his girlfriend well and that he is older than his on-screen role I can't help but think he is sending out the wrong signals to young people. A lot of young people watch the soaps and with all of them highlighting young pregancies in storylines is kind of encouraging undirectly young people to have kids. We have all read post on here on how we believe the plots on soaps are related to real-life issues. Some have had positive comments others adverse. There is also the dange that some fans of programmes have difficulty in relating acting from real-life and this is were it could lead to more young girls falling pregnant.

But actors can't put their lives on hold to prevent tv viewers or movie watchers copying what they do. I think that the violent and/or sexually explicit pc games can have a far more negative influence on some people than a young actor starting a family.

i do agree but i think we have been made aware they have been together for like 5 years and are livingotgether and that he is older than you think. I think it still does send out a signal but theres not much you can do and like perdita said theres a lot more things that can influence/

Coronation Street star Jack P. Shepherd has revealed that he is "chuffed" after learning that he is going to be a father.

The actor, who plays bad boy David Platt on the ITV1 soap, confirmed reports that his girlfriend Lauren Shippey is pregnant with their first child.

"I am obviously chuffed to bits. Obviously it wasn't planned but I am very excited," Jack told the Daily Star. "We don't know what we are having yet but I kind of want to keep that as a surprise."
