Actor Richard Cambridge has joined the cast of Hollyoaks - almost 10 years after his first audition with the soap.

Cambridge initially auditioned for the role of original Hollyoaks bad boy, Kurt Benson. However, producers gave the part to former-Celebrity Big Brother 3 contestant Jeremy Edwards.

Now, the 30-year-old is to appear as Peter Webster, a flirtatious careers advisor at Hollyoaks High.

A show source revealed to Digital Spy: "Pete is friendly, flirty and has the gift of the gab. He's definitely got an eye for the ladies but beneath his welcoming exterior, there's a more sinister side to him.

"He's prone to preying on vulnerable and naïve women by earning their trust before making his move. But if a girl turns down his advances, he'll not be afraid to use psychological manipulation to get what he wants."

They added: "If his lecherous behaviour goes unchecked, he can turn very ominous…"

Speaking of his casting, Cambridge told DS: " I'm absolutely thrilled to have been chosen for this role having been up for Jeremy Edwards' part of Kurt, 10 years ago."

Careers guru Pete Webster's first scenes are due to air on Monday, November 1.
