also im glad the fanning sisters arent in it, i cant stand dakota fanning and i think elle would be too young to play anna. and apparently dakota didnt want the role cos she didnt wanna shave her head! anyway i cant wait, it was my favourite jodi picoult book :D

Yh, dakota didnt want to shave her hair, i dont blame her, i wouldnt either, the only thing that may have swayed it is that it is an amazing book

Somebody on here recommended "Book Thief", can't remember the author, I tried to read it but found it too upsetting (daft, I know, it is a book but I get involved :o ). My next book I will attempt to read is "PS I love you". :)

What is Book Theif about?

I'm rereading Deathly Hallows. I can't be bothered to read something new at the moment, I like knowing what's going to happen.

I cried for the last few chapters.. I really enjoyed it.. it is sad but also very funny and warm... you can't help but become attached to the characters.

Torey Hayden is a really good author. This is the first book of her's that isn't a non-fiction so it's a bit different. Works really well though, I'm still trying to figure out if it is fiction or if it's one of her memoirs that she's turned into a novel.

we had to do romeo and juliet, pride and prejudice, of mice and men, hobsons choice and some poems by people who ive forgotten lol (2 of them were blake and wordsworth, cant remember the other 2). i dont like shakespeare cos i dont understand it lol but i think romeo and juliet was the best one to do cos at least i understand the storyline in that one and we got to watch the film! pride and prejudice i gave up reading, it was too long and boring so i watched the film instead (which was only slightly less boring than the book!) still managed to get an A for that bit of cw though! hobsons choice i think was the most boring play ive ever read!

Just an update. The book is excellent except for the parts when the mother (Laura) is in therapy. All she talks about is an imaginary person who she's been seeing since she was 7 (now in her 40s). It really is boring, reminds me of the Lord of the Rings kinda fantasy. Also included are stories that Laura wrote when she was in school (even more boring). I'm just skipping everything about Laura.

Lose yourself in the magical new novel from Cecelia Ahern - the No.1 bestselling author of PS, I Love You How can you know someone you've never met? Joyce Conway remembers things she shouldn't. She knows about tiny cobbled streets in Paris, which she has never visited. And every night she dreams about an unknown little girl with blonde hair. When she leaves hospital after a terrible accident, with her life and her marriage in pieces, Joyce moves back in with her elderly father. All the while, a strong sense of deja vu is overwhelming her and she can't figure out why! Justin Hitchcock is divorced, lonely and restless. He arrives in Dublin to give a lecture on art and meets attractive doctor Sarah, who persuades him to donate blood. It's the first thing to come straight from his heart in a long time. When Justin receives a basket of muffins with a note simply saying thank you,he is sure someone is playing a trick on him. But then a series of gifts begin to arrive. Intrigued and disturbed, Justin is determined to find out who is sending them. What he discovers will change his life forever.

I agree with you there Trinity, the second and third just aren't the same. He had such a horrific story, and I dont feel like the other two really shed much more light on the situation, they are just him milking it for all it's worth. Saying that though in the third book there's some moving scenes between his mother/father/grandmother, as he gets answers to make his life complete.

I've got a big job ahead of me, I've got to adapt this into a movie for my current assignment, not sure how I'm going to go about it yet. It will certainly be challenging and hopefully I'll get a good grade for it, as part of the portfolio is raising debates for and against an adaptation.

Trinity
16-11-2008, 15:06
OMG - that is such a difficult assignment.

The story is so horrific that there is a danger of making it gratuitous if you show the violence, but then again if you don't is the story as strong.

There would have to be a lot of implied neglect and scenes of the mother shutting doors and screaming.

If you have to do all three books then I would start at the end and tell the story in flash backs.

Can I ask what kind of abuse, I know it might sound like a werid question but in my drama we are doing our play based on peoples abuse of their authority and we need to fit it in to social, cultrual and historical context

Very good Perdy. Although it mainly based for young people you can't help but feel sadness for the two boys involved. One is clueless to the horrors of the war while the other has sufferd too much pain. Read it Perdy you will enjoy it. I bought it to help Marley understand the horror of the war. She is being taught about WW2 next year and this book makes understanding the troubles easier to understand.

I am now half way through "Thanks for the Memories" and its very easy to read and enjoy. Just like "PS I love you" it can make you laugh and cry. Its about a young woman from Dublin named Joyce who sufferes a miscarrige after a fall, her marrige breaks down and she returns to live with her elderly father. After her accident she needs a blood transfusion. This comes from an american Art Lecturer who is teaching in Dublin and donates blood, which goes to Joyce. After that their lives become entwined she starts eating red meat were before she was a veggie and other stuff happen.

Definitely. From what I remember it wasn't even set in the same place for part of it as it was in the book! Some parts of the book were just reinvented by whoever did the film and you'll understand what I mean here when you've read and seen it but a character was trying to protect her friend's emotions by not telling her something but in the film she just came out with it if I remember rightly and it reinvented the character for me into someone heartless, considering the circumstances.

I was tempted to buy Angel and Demons yesterday but if I read it before I see the film I know I'll be disapointed.

ive got angels and demons, havent read it yet though. most books are always way better than the films

I know DM and that's why I want to see the film before. If I read the book first I will sit through the film and nit pick instead of enjoying the fim.

PS I Love You and Angel and Demons are both good reads, I enjoyed them both very much.
PS I Love You had me in tears of laughter as well as sadness and Angel and Demons had me gripped with its suspense, so you need to decide what type of book you fan reading first I suppose. :)

i read a book on the lyceum theatre for my essay, got quite interesting near the end lol!

now ive finished all my work for this year, ive started reading "nineteen minutes" by jodi picoult, ive read over half of it already and its really good. its about a boy who goes into his high school and shoots and kills 10 people, then it goes back in time so you can sort of understand why he did it. dont really know how the ending is going to be that interesting though, cos normally wth her books it revolves around the court case and if the person is guilty or not, but seeing as we know from the start that the boy shoots them, im looking forward to seeing how she ends it

im currently reading "Life With My Sister Madonna" by Christopher Chiccone.

It's written by Madonna's brother, and it's his memoirs and in it he kind of exposes the real Madonna, and what a bitch she was to him over the years, it's a really gripping read, and if it's true (im sure some is made up) it's made me think of madonna in a whole new light!!!

I have read that.. it is really good book.. I am in 2 minds about it too.. it kinda makes me question Madonna (and I love the woman) but if what her brother has written is true, then you can forget everything you have read about Madonna so far... he said she made up stories to release to the press like moving to New York with like 3 dollars in her pocket is bull ****
