Coronation Street villain Karl Munro makes a shock confession to Jason Grimshaw next month.

Karl (John Michie) turns nasty with Jason after the builder disrupts his stag celebrations at The Rovers.

With Karl enjoying a few quiet drinks with his friends at the pub, Jason (Ryan Thomas) mocks him for having a stag night when his wedding to Stella Price might not be going ahead at all.

Stella has yet to make a decision on whether it's appropriate to have the ceremony while Nick remains in his coma, but a smug Jason suggests that Stella has finally seen the light and is looking for any excuse not to marry Karl.

Furious over Jason's goading, Karl follows him into the pub toilets and grabs hold of him.

In a bid to scare Jason off, Karl confesses that he was responsible for torching his van in March and will do a whole lot worse if he doesn't stop interfering.

Karl confronts Jason

The altercation is interrupted when Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) enters the toilets and breaks up the warring men, but a shaken Jason is already wondering what else Karl might be capable of.

Alone with Dev, Jason points out that Karl may have also been the mystery arsonist behind the Rovers fire. Although Dev doesn't want to believe it's true, he soon realises that Jason could well be right…

SUNDAY 1st

When Karl laments to Dev that it seems wrong to have a stag night without a wedding date, Jason enjoys taking the mickey and suggests that Stella is having second thoughts. Karl fumes, but Leanne assures Stella that she must go ahead with her wedding as it's what Nick would want.

Later, Karl's stag night takes place in The Rovers, but when Jason continues to goad Karl, he flips and grabs hold of Jason, making a shock admission in a bid to scare him off…

Meanwhile, Hayley is moved to tears when Roy surprises her with a special meal in the café to celebrate their third wedding anniversary.

Elsewhere, Chesney admits to Fiz that he's been an idiot and wishes he hadn't messed up with Sinead. Fiz meets Sinead for a drink and explains how Chesney only went back to Katy to be with his son and deeply regrets splitting up with her. How will Sinead respond? At the same time, Katy bumps into her friend Steph who talks Katy into going clubbing in town.

Also, under pressure from Gail, Kylie contemplates a DNA test.

Shocked at Karl's confession, Jason threatens to call the police but Karl points out they'll never believe him. Jason lashes out at Karl and a fight ensues before Dev enters the toilets and pulls the two men apart. Accusing Jason of jealousy, Karl tells Stella that she's making a mockery of his stag do by refusing to commit.

Grabbing Karl, Stella leads him back into the bar and announces that they're going ahead with the wedding. Everyone cheers while a shaken Jason confides in Dev, explaining that Karl admitted to torching his van, so he could have been capable of setting fire to The Rovers too…

Meanwhile, when Carla finds Hayley on Maxine's bench, clearly worried about her operation, she does her best to reassure her before Roy accompanies Hayley to the hospital.

Elsewhere, Katy and Steph set off into town with two of Steph's male mates. At the same time, Sinead tells Beth how she misses Chesney and knows he has split up with Katy. Sinead is clearly in turmoil. Later, Sinead spots Katy, Steph, Ben and Naz return from town and then watches as Chesney steps in to protect Katy from Naz who's coming on too strong. As a result, she's more confused than ever about what's going on.

Finally, under pressure from Gail, will Kylie agree to a DNA test?

Monday

As Hayley is prepared for theatre, the consultant explains that if the operation is successful she'll wake in the high dependency unit, but if the surgery proves unsuccessful she'll be brought back to the ward.

Hayley attempts a brave face as Roy tries to remain strong. However, as Roy waits for news he's fraught with nerves, especially when the consultant arrives to talk.

Meanwhile, when Kirk spots Craig leaving Rob and Tracy's shop with a video game, Beth presumes he's stolen it and confronts him. Backed into a corner, Craig blurts out that Karl gave him the money. As Beth storms into The Rovers asking Karl why he's giving her son money, an equally perplexed Jason and Dev watch on as they gather evidence against Karl.

Elsewhere, Peter tries to buoy the spirits of the staff as they wait for news of Hayley's operation. Michelle is annoyed as it's clear Peter is a big hit on the factory floor.

Also, Chesney convinces Sinead to meet him for lunch where he pleads for forgiveness, insisting that Katy is his past and she's his future. Will Sinead agree to put her heart on the line for Chesney again?

Finally, Leanne offers to throw a surprise wedding reception at the Bistro for Stella.

As the consultant explains to Roy that Hayley's operation has been unsuccessful, he's hit by the enormity of the news. Back on the ward with Hayley, they desperately try to distract themselves from reality before bracing themselves as the specialist arrives.

The couple hear that Hayley's tumour proved inoperable and all they can offer is palliative care. It's a devastating blow for the Croppers as Hayley is told that she only has six to twelve months to live.

Meanwhile, as Beth confronts Karl he plays it down, claiming that he only gave Craig the money to cheer him up. As Jason and Dev watch on with interest, Karl is aware suspicion has been roused and later goes to tackle a terrified Craig. Can Karl remain in control?

Elsewhere, Carla is unimpressed when Steve lets slip about Michelle feeling overworked. Annoyed with Steve for stirring up trouble, will Michelle air her grievances about Peter to Carla?

Also, Sinead agrees to give Chesney one last chance but warns him not to mess her around again. Will the couple reconcile?

Wednesday

In the hospital, Roy is at Hayley's side as they listen to what support groups are available. The harsh reality of Hayley's illness is sinking in.

Roy is determined to step up to the mark, while Hayley holds back the tears as they fight to stay strong and enjoy the time Hayley has left.

Meanwhile, with Beth on his case and Karl's threats ringing in his ears, it's all too much for Craig. After seeing Dev, his guilt is ramped up further and he decides to do a runner, leaving a note at home asking his mum to apologise to Dev. As a frantic Beth and Kirk search for Craig, will his note lead to Karl being unmasked?

Elsewhere, while the Platts dote over Lily, a sulky Max watches from the sidelines before throwing one of her toys in the bin. Will Kylie and David discover his jealousy?

Also today, Chesney is full of the joys as he and Sinead head out together, but his mood is soon altered when Fiz tells him the news about Hayley.

The next episode of Coronation Street will air on Sunday, September 8.

It's a life-changing day for the Croppers on Coronation Street tonight (September 2) as Hayley has her operation.

Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) needs surgery to remove her tumour, but is well aware that there are no guarantees as the procedure is so complicated.

Just before Hayley is taken into theatre, she's told that a successful operation would take around seven hours, but she'll be back much sooner if the tumour can't be removed.

Roy (David Neilson) is fraught with nerves as he kisses Hayley before she's wheeled away, and he's then left waiting anxiously for news…

Coronation Street star David Neilson has said that viewers will see a 'nastier' side of his character Roy Cropper as the show's cancer storyline continues.

Roy is left devastated in tonight's double bill (September 2) as his wife Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) is told that her tumour is inoperable.

As Roy struggles to cope with the news, he clashes with Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire) when she tries to use religion to comfort him.

Neilson told itv.com: "The news is not good. It's as bad as it can be. Roy is very angry, because Hayley is so good. Hayley's been through an awful lot and so has Roy. They've been together and they try to do the right thing. I suppose there is a feeling of injustice.

"I think he becomes quite raw and he accesses his nastiness. He vents it on people."

The actor explained that the Coronation Street team have worked hard to portray the storyline sensitively.

He said: "It is a monumental storyline, but one thing that's so affecting about it is that it's a subject that affects everyone - the people who write it, the people who make it, the actors. We're all involved and we've all got our own experiences, so you feel a responsibility to do it properly, because it's happening all the time, every day.

"It's delicate stuff, but the thing is - within all that - it's the characters that are going through this. So it's very much Roy and Hayley, and all the people around them, that are going through this. They go through it in a very 'Roy and Hayley' way."

Coronation Street airs the life-changing episodes for the Croppers tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.

Coronation Street schoolboy Craig Tinker reaches breaking point and runs away from home in tonight's episode (September 4).

Craig (Colson Smith) does a disappearing act as he can no longer cope with the guilt he feels over the Rovers Return fire, especially with Karl Munro's threats to worry about.

Before leaving, Craig writes a note for his mum Beth, asking her to apologise to Dev Alahan on his behalf.

Beth (Lisa George) and Kirk (Andrew Whyment) are both baffled by the note, but as they approach Dev for answers, will he realise that it's another clue to Karl's guilt?
