    Exclamation Chris Simmons joins

Previously part of ITV's long-running police procedural The Bill, Chris portrayed DC Mickey Webb between 1998 and 2010. Other notable appearances include a guest role on Casualty and as Kat Moon's EastEnders love interest back in 2011.

According to Metro, Chris teased his involvement with the show on Twitter several days ago, but has since deleted the tweet. Hinting at an upcoming storyline, he's said to have revealed it would be something "fascinating" and "exciting".

Digital Spy has reached out to Hollyoaks for comment.

Meanwhile, Aaden Duckworth – who plays Ollie in the soap – has spoken about the Buster Smith trial storyline, which concludes next week, and how the show hopes to encourage real-life victims of similar circumstances.

He explained: "It's incredibly important to show that if somebody speaks out about it, there are people who will listen, which will encourage survivors watching the show to speak out."

Actors Nathan Sussex, who plays Buster, and Jacob Roberts, who plays Buster's son Damon, have also had their say on the storyline.
