It did show just how uncaring she is really, considering how in the early scene she said him being there was enough help for her then. What confused me was that I thought Lawrence had agreed it was ok for Robert to be there at least until the baby was born and that was before all the drugging business started. She seemed to just toss aside herself not from anything Lawrence told her as I don't recall him actually saying we don't needanymore!

She has never once asked how he was coping - it's been her own woes and troubles all the time.
