    Some Emmerdale Spoilers for 2016

Emmerdale’s new producer Iain McLeod has revealed his first plans for the show as it enters into its new era following Kate Oates’ move to Coronation Street.

Emmerdale has enjoyed a solid year of gripping storylines, highly praised performances and surprise twists that have kept fans on the edge of their seats and it seems that MacLeod has no plans to change the show’s successful format.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk at a recent press event, he unveiled some of the storylines that will keep fans gripped over the coming months and insisted that his aim is to build on the strong characters and story arcs left by his predecessor.

He said: ‘How do you follow that? I’m about to find out I suppose. Yes, I feel the pressure of what’s coming before. It’s not just been recently that it’s been great, it’s got a real pedigree but it’s a healthy pressure. It’s a privilege to be part of a show in such good health with such an incredible cast and talented writers.’

‘There’s exciting chapters of all these stories still to play. If I didn’t strive to keep the show as brilliant as it already was then I’d be in the wrong job so I’m thrilled to be here. There’s nothing wrong with the show so what a brilliant pressure to be under. I just hope to continue the great work everyone has been doing. Brilliant characters and big storylines are my watch words. It’s like being given a brand new box of toys to play with!

‘This collection of well drawn, well made characters in the middle of great storylines – it’s such a blessing to come in to that set up!’

Here’s what he had to say about the big storylines ahead…

    1. Charity’s return brings a nightmare for Cain and Moira

‘We’ve got Charity’s return in a month. It’s literally high octane – you’ll see what I mean when the episode airs. I’m very keen to get my hands on a character that is so box office and capable of anything. She can start a fight and a story in an empty room. Her intention is to destabilise Cain and Moira in any way that she can and there’s a long term story there that will pay off towards the end of the year with a fairly massively heartbreaking dilemma for Cain that will test where his loyalties lie.’

    2. Moira’s daughter, Holly, returns

‘Holly coming back, still played by Sophie Powles – she’s back in about six weeks. The idea is that Cain’s life at the present time is relatively stable so we’re going to topple his table over and throw him into confusion. Holly arrives with trouble trailing behind and we see Cain step in and save the day as only he can. But how long can he keep doing that in service of Moira and her family before his head is again turned by Charity? It’s a big, complicated family story with highs, lows and tragedy.’

    3. New drama for the Dingles!

‘There’s a new Dingle coming in. I made some notes before I came today and the words ‘gin-fuelled whirlwind’ sprung up so if I left it at that hopefully it’s intriguing enough. We wanted to bring someone in to illuminate the family in a way that perhaps hasn’t been done by the characters currently there. She’s a big, chaotic mess but while it may look like she’s fun and trouble, the story we get to is serious and a big family story will ensure. The character may or may not be called Faith but we haven’t got near a casting next.’

    4. Wedding twist for Ashley and Laurel

‘I’m very personally invested in Ashley’s story – it’s everything that the show does well. It’s heartbreaking but deals with human experiences and huge emotional stakes. We’re running at least until the end of this year and possibly beyond if we can find enough chapters for it. For me, it’s my favourite kind of story. At the core, it’s a love story even though it’s based on a medical issue. It’s based on love, loyalty and loss. There’s tonnes of warmth and humanity to get from it. The next big chapter is their wedding and that has an interesting twist within it.

‘It’s a poignant, sad, joyous and complicated day. I’m so looking forward to the episodes. As much as Kate set the ball rolling, it’s heartwarming, heartbreaking and gorgeous. That’s one of the big 2016 stories.’

    5. What next for Paddy?

‘The next chapter of the Paddy story is fairly sizeable and Pierce [Tess’ husband, played by Jonathan Wrather] will play a large part in it.’

    What else coming up soon?

A few more teasers since we’re so kind…

    - There could be fresh challenges ahead for Rakesh and Priya which will put strain on their relationship…
    - The arrival of his sister into his life is about to turn things upside down once more for Aaron…
    - As Kirin hits the bottle, can Vanessa trust him around baby Johnny after a shock outburst?
    - A traumatic from Carly’s past is set to lead to big heartache…
    - There’s another wedding on the cards – but will it go ahead?
    - A surprise proposal could have seriously awkward results…

Emmerdale's producer Iain MacLeod has responded to fans' worry that he was going to ruin the show.

MacLeod joined from Hollyoaks and took over from Kate Oates in January and says he has no plans to change the show, given that it's "too much of a precious thing to mess around with".

"When I got the job, I did look up the Emmerdale hashtag on Twitter and there was quite a lot of people going, 'I'm never watching Emmerdale again - he's going to ruin it'. But I'm absolutely not going to change it into something viewers don't recognise," he told What's On TV.

One thing MacLeod is definitely not going to tinker with is the relationship between Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley). Miller had recently spoke to Digital Spy about the possibility of a Robron reunion.

"I think the performance chemistry between those two lads is just great," he enthused. "There's years left before I'm even slightly bored of watching them two together. I think they're in it for the long haul."

And MacLeod even hinted at possible returnees, teasing that "quite a few" former cast members have been in touch.

"It means the show's doing really well, that people still hold it in really high regard, that they enjoyed working there," he explained. "I think it's a massive compliment to Emmerdale, but I can't say any more than that at this point because it's top secret."

MacLeod has also opened up about the pressures of taking over from Oates on the show and spoken about the "gin-fuelled whirlwind" that is the new Dingle, possibly named Faith.

Emmerdale's residents should brace themselves for big trouble, as another shock explosion looks set to rock the village.

Show scriptwriter Sharon Marshall shared the juicy gossip as part of her regular slot on ITV's This Morning today (May 17), revealing that the top secret scenes are currently being filmed.

Marshall, who has been working at Emmerdale since last year, explained that a replica of an existing set was built in secret - just so it could be blown up in the unmissable storyline.

Could it be as spectacular as the 2013 blaze at Home Farm (pictured below)?

Marshall told This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: "Emmerdale actually found an unused tank factory from the Cold War, replicated the set, built it up, just so they could blow it up.

"I can say that one of the villagers puts other people in danger. But they literally built an exact replica so they can build it up without anyone seeing it."

Marshall confirmed that the story hasn't been dreamt up just to pull in some last minute British Soap Awards votes, as the scenes won't air until after the ceremony.

When Schofield joked about the suspicious Soap Awards timing, Marshall laughed: "No, it'll be after that. Darling, we go all year round at Emmerdale!"

Emmerdale's new producer Iain MacLeod had previously teased that a big stunt would rock the village in June.

Speaking back in March, he revealed: "There's a big set piece, stunty sequence in June which will involve Priya, Rakesh, Lawrence and Nicola.

"That will be going on screen towards the end of June. That will be brilliant, spectacular and with high stakes."

Emmerdale's new boss Iain MacLeod has teased an action-packed summer for the ITV soap, confirming that Chas Dingle will be one of the characters taking centre stage

Chas has faced a turbulent year following Aaron's revelation that his father and Chas's ex-husband Gordon had sexually abused him as a child.

A recent twist saw Gordon die in prison, but MacLeod has confirmed that the story is still far from over as the focus will now turn to Chas.

MacLeod said: "Chas has been Aaron's strongest support, but we finally get to explore what effect the Gordon story has had on her.

"The effects on her are going to be quite pronounced. We are going to open her heart and deal with some of the demons we haven't had a chance to exorcise in the story so far."

MacLeod also confirmed that there are big stories coming up for Jai and Megan, Laurel and Ashley, and Cain and Moira.

"Jai seems to be a reformed character, but do we believe him? And the question is whether Megan will or not", the show's boss teased.

"We are going to play that out over the summer and get her to the point of finally having to decide whether she wants this man or not.

"I am really excited about the Ashley and Laurel story as well. It will continue to be heartbreaking and sad. Strong Laurel - who has been right by Ashley's side throughout -will face a huge test and will end up reacting in a few really surprising ways.

"Cain and Moira are a character group really close to my heart, and what a blockbusting couple they are. But we now have Charity in the mix. She has been unusually patient, but of course, patience only stretches so far - especially where Charity is concerned."

Finally, David Metcalfe's cancer story will also take a turn, while Emma's scheming could have some huge repercussions.

MacLeod added: "David's cancer treatment is going to continue and the surprising result of this is that he develops this almost crazy lust for life. We are going to carry on his relationship with Tracy which will be funny and romantic.

"The big question for the Bartons is: how can a family that has been shattered so massively come back together? There is loads of fun to be had with this, but all of this will have the biggest impact on Emma.

"It will drive her into a particularly unpleasant lie which she will tell over the summer and will come back to bite her later in the year."

Expect "betrayals and exits" over the coming months

Emmerdale producer Iain MacLeod has promised a summer of "betrayals and exits" on the ITV soap, with a major highlight being an "incredible" stunt sequence in June that will "draw in loads of characters and put them in tons of jeopardy".
As well as the prospect of a big calamity to look forward to, the soap boss also highlighted what would happening to some of the biggest characters on his show:

    Aaron and Robert
"Robert and Aaron more than overdue their moment in the sun and their big happy ending. But are they going to get that?"

    Chas
"We’re going to be exploring the effect that the Gordon story has had on her. The effects on her are going to be quite pronounced. It's an opportunity for her to open her heart and exorcise some demons."
    Meanwhile, at Home Farm...
"The story for this summer is a big tragic love story for Lawrence, which spills over into a massive revenge story for Chrissie. This will happen around July and August. And it’ll be blockbusting."

    Megan and Jai
"Jai seems to be a reformed character. But do we believe him? Megan will get to a point of deciding whether she wants this man or she doesn’t."

    Ashley and Laurel
"This story continues to be heartbreaking and sad. And strong Laurel, who has been by Ashley’s side will face a huge test and will react in a couple of surprising ways."

    Cain and Moira
"'Coira' are a blockbusting couple. And now we have Charity in the mix. She’s been unusually patient, but patience only stretches so far where Charity is concerned…"

    David
"David's cancer treatement continues. He develops a crazy lust for life – so we're going to continue the relationship with Tracy, which is both funny and romantic."

    Belle
"We have a huge story that will be a little bit different. And it emerges from her affair with Dr Bailey. Just when her family starts to close in and find out what’s been going on, a really surprising twist will occur that’s a little bit different to anything we’ve seen on Emmerdale."

    Rhona
"Rhona’s heart is available and she makes some controversial choices. A lot of her friends and neighbours will think that she’s losing her mind."

    The Bartons
"How can a family that’s been shattered so massively come back together? There's loads of fun to be had exploring that between the three brothers. Whether Pete can forgive Ross, Ross can forgive Pete and Finn can cope with things falling to bits around his ears...This will have the biggest impact on Emma and it’ll drive her into telling a particularly unpleasant lie which will come back to bite her…"

Emmerdale is preparing another unmissable storyline next month, as the villagers experience another shock explosion.

Pasha Bocarie, who plays Rakesh Kotecha on the ITV soap and is involved in the explosion, has teased the story, saying that fans can expect surprises as their favourite characters face drama and danger.

Speaking to the Express at The British Soap Awards, Pasha said: "Nothing is safe to assume, people's lives are in danger. It's going to be quite an impressive stunt, you'll be quite surprised.

"As an actor you wait your whole for an opportunity like this, and when you get it, you have to make sure you're prepared and never take it for granted. I'm happy it's come and I think audiences will enjoy it."

Show scriptwriter Sharon Marshall, who has been working at Emmerdale since last year, recently explained that a replica of an existing set was built in secret - just so it could be blown up in the storyline.

Priya Sharma, Rakesh Kotecha, Lawrence White and Nicola King will all find themselves at the centre of the dramatic plot.
