    Exclamation EastEnders Spoilers 9th -13th May 2016

EastEnders airs emotional return scenes for Peggy Mitchell later this month as she arrives back in Walford for the final time.

Barbara Windsor has decided to bow out from her iconic role for good, but producers have promised to do Peggy proud with a fitting exit storyline.

Peggy's first scenes back see her arrive to see Ronnie, who then accompanies her when she pays a visit to the doctor.

Devastatingly, Peggy receives the heartbreaking news that her cancer has spread and she doesn't have long left - leaving her determined to spend some time with her beloved family before the inevitable happens.

Never one to do things by halves, Peggy makes her presence known to the local residents when she takes a trip around Albert Square on the milk float and spots some familiar faces.

EastEnders hardman Phil Mitchell will be left devastated later this month as his mum Peggy tells him that she's stopping treatment for her cancer.

When Peggy returns to Albert Square next week, she asks Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) to accompany her to a doctors appointment - and they're both left devastated when it's revealed that her cancer has spread and she doesn't have long left.

Rather than continue treatment to prolong her life, Peggy then makes the difficult decision to just enjoy the time she has left with her loved ones back home on the Square.

Phil (Steve McFadden) is distraught when he learns of Peggy's decision and refuses to accept it, gathering the Mitchells together in a desperate bid to remind her of how much she has left to fight for.

While Phil hopes his tactic will work, the rest of the family are still unaware of Peggy's diagnosis and don't understand the intentions behind his efforts.

Once Phil's ex-wife Sharon learns of Peggy's illness, she steps up to offer her support and encourages him to keep reminding his mum of the reasons she should keep fighting.

With Sharon's words on his mind, Phil makes plans to give his mum a day to remember. However, Peggy has other ideas and instead takes them on a trip down memory lane.

The pair's emotional day out includes a memorable boat trip along the Thames, but when it comes to the crunch, will Phil finally accept Peggy's decision?

Barbara Windsor is returning to EastEnders as Peggy for the final time, having decided to give her iconic character a fitting send-off. Current executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins is overseeing her final episodes before making his own departure from EastEnders.

Speaking earlier this year, Windsor revealed: "Everyone knows I love EastEnders and that will never change. Peggy is a character close to my heart, but I made the decision a while ago that I need to say goodbye to Peggy once and for all as otherwise she will always be there, urging me to go back and that is something I need to shut the door on.

"After thinking long and hard about it, I realised that it is time for me and the audience to say our final farewells to the lady who I have loved for many years and I thought that whilst the guvnor, who I adore, is still in charge I want him to be the one to oversee it. I am grateful that Dominic accepted my decision."

EastEnders airs these scenes in the week commencing Monday, May 9 on BBC One.

    Monday

Jack has a surprising suggestion for Ronnie regarding her living arrangements. After a heart-to-heart with Andy, Ronnie agrees to Jack's suggestion.

Later, it seems the drama is only just beginning for Ronnie when she opens the front door to find Peggy standing there...

Meanwhile, as Buster remains on a mission to stop the CostMart sale, Shirley orders him to apologise to Kathy for betraying her trust. Buster's plan starts to fall apart when Kathy embarrasses him outside of Beale's and the residents start to give up hope that the sale will be called off.

Desperate to find money to help fund his campaign against the sale, Buster comes up with an idea and ropes in Lee to help - telling him they're going to Belinda's. The Carters soon realise that Buster and Lee are up to no good and Mick and Johnny head off to find them, but they are soon forced into bailing them out of trouble. But are the problems only just beginning when Belinda also spots them?

Elsewhere, tension brews between Bex and Louise when they both find themselves with eyes for Shakil.

    Tuesday

When Aunt Sal and Phil arrive looking for Peggy, Ronnie denies that she has seen her. Sal is unconvinced by her lies and urges her to be honest, so Peggy eventually reveals herself to her sister.

Later on, Ronnie takes Peggy to her appointment and they learn some devastating news - the cancer has spread and Peggy doesn't have long left.

Meanwhile, the Carters are in shock after what happened yesterday, with Johnny particularly worried about the future of his law career if Belinda reports them to the police. Surprisingly, Belinda turns up and invites Linda and Mick for dinner and even says they can use her hot tub. Belinda promises that last night's incident is already forgotten.

Mick and Linda head to Belinda's for the sake of Johnny, but things soon take an unexpected turn.

Elsewhere, Sonia puts on a brave face ahead of her appointment with the doctor but insists on going alone. Bex seeks advice from Stacey, who joins Sonia for the appointment.

    Thiursday

Peggy breaks the news about her cancer to Phil and reveals that she has decided to stop treatment. Phil refuses to accept her decision and gathers the Mitchells together to remind her of the family she has.

The rest of the family are still unaware of Peggy's diagnosis and don't understand the intentions behind Phil's efforts, so everyone soon departs. With tensions mounting, Phil snaps at Peggy and begs her to fight for the sake of her family.

    Friday

Peggy makes her presence known on the Square when she travels around on a milk float and sees some old friends. Sharon tries her best to support Phil, explaining that Ronnie has told her about Peggy's health.

Seeing how desperate Phil is, Sharon comes up with an idea to help and encourages him to remind Peggy of everything she has to fight for.

With Sharon's words on his mind, Phil makes plans to give his mum a day to remember. However, Peggy has other ideas and instead takes them on a trip down memory lane.
