well i must confess I was expecting a bit more from tonight's heist but it was still good. I just wish Ross would call Charity on her bluff!

I know Ross has gotten away with alot in the past mainly by luck but he surely has the brains as well to take on Charity? She has just gotten out of jail, Ross has never actually been caught doing anything and has always found a way to get out of it. I hope they dont make Ross a lot more stupid than he actually is just to make Charity look like this evil genius.

To be fair to the writers tonight was consistent to how he joined back in 2013. In an argument with James he admitted he wasn't smarter than Pete/Finn. So it could be a confidence issue too, I think you are right and that Ross is smarter than he gives himself credit for. Might explain why he's overly cocky to make up for that. Could be an interesting storyline insight in the future for Ross.

Pete smarter than Ross? I don't think Pete is even smarter than Sam tbh, if Ross thinks Pete is smarter than him he must have some serious confidence issues. However as you say this could be a good storyline for him, maybe he only acts like the cocky bad boy to hide his insecurities. Ross' past needs to be explored a lot more in my opinion.
I think Ross and Charity could be the most explosive and interesting duo in the shows history. Charity's scheming and thinking mixed with Ross' ruthlessness, craziness and the fact he gets away with everything could be a deadly combination. They are lot more interesting than Debbie/Ross in my opinion, with Debbie she wanted Ross to be some one he isn't with Charity she will want Ross to be the villain/bad boy which he is best at playing. Whether they will get together or not is a different story but Charity and Ross going on a crime spree will be brilliant viewing.
I rewatched the clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZi3gvCz4CE) - and my mistake Ross uses the word "good" and not "smart" - suppose it could mean the same thing.
