There is one character who I have thought may be the murderer, but as there hasn't been any indication up to now that this character could be leaving the show, I thought that this was just wishful thinking on my part. But given the article I have just posted in the General section (re Ada & a "former" castmate), maybe there is some truth to it.
SPOILER ALERT! for those not in Aust
Like many, I initially thought that like previous years finales when we thought possibly a main character would die only for it not to happen (The hospital explosion in 2013, where only guest character Ethan died, & 2014 the bus crash "Who will die?", & it was just the bus driver), that this year would be the same, & again it wouldn't be a main character or it would be someone we knew for sure is leaving.
As mentioned in an earlier discussion in the General thread, Ch7 put out an 'investigation app' over summer & TV Week etc have gone thru a list of the 10 main suspects. If it turns out that it is not one of these main 10 people, what other possibilities are there? The only other theories I can see are that Brax or Gunno (or his henchmen) did it, or it was suicide. When Kat told Zac, Leah & Alf that Charlotte was dead, Alf asked if she took her own life, but Kat said no, she was shot - this would seem to rule out suicide. I think we can safely say now that it wasn't Brax (& as Ricky didn't go on the run with him this time, if/when he does return eventually for them to leave together, I assume that he would have been cleared/is a free man etc?). It can't be Gunno himself, because he was at the time, & still is, in jail (I think they would have made a big deal out of it by now if he had escaped). If it was one of his henchmen, it would make a mockery of all the promos saying "one of your favourites is a murderer", "they all had a motive, but one of them did it" or the latest "it is someone everyone knows really well".
So, from the list of 10 main suspects i.e. Kyle, Hunter, Olivia, Andy, Irene, Leah, Oscar, Ash, Evie & Zac (Josh has also been mentioned, but I will leave him out because the Ch7 app cleared him), what do we know/think?
As I mentioned in another post, recently Kat & Dylan discounted both Irene & Hunter & then Ash was cleared. We know that Olivia, Leah & Evie are not leaving + I don't think anyone really thinks it could be one of them. If we assume that Zac didn't do it & he is the one "wrongly accused" (+ I don't believe he is leaving the show), that only leaves Oscar, Kyle & Andy.
With Oscar, we know of the rumours he may have left (possibly killed off). If it was him, he has been playing it pretty cool lately for a young guy who may have had that preying on their conscience - helping Skye etc, & I don't see him letting Zac be locked up & go to trial for him (& this has already been done previously where he came forward after Zac was going to take the blame for him for hitting Tamara with the car).
With Kyle, the spoilers & promos show that he will probably be the next to be accused by the police ie they find out Charlotte phoned him a little while before she died & I think they actually say they find her phone at his place, behind the fridge(?). I think we will find out that he had a run-in with Charlotte earlier that night & that is how he had the cut on his face when he saw Oscar throwing chairs outside the surf club, which was before the scenes when she was shot. Did he go back later to finish her off? Possibly. With the promos of him with Isla & the scene where it looks like he/they get arrested, I assume that this will be the lead up to him leaving the show. Will it turn out that apart from the stuff with Isla, that he also killed Charlotte? Quite possibly, but IMO unlikely.
So that only leaves Andy, who has been my prime suspect. He was looking for Charlotte (as was Kyle), because she could expose that he killed Pirovic. He had the kissing scene with Evie, & then we saw him back at the Braxton house washing his face (in a panic?). Most people have assumed it was because he was flustered after kissing Evie, but we saw in early scenes this year that Evie told Hannah they (Andy/Evie) met up again soon after the kiss & realised straight away it was a mistake etc. Could him washing his face with a worried look be because he killed Charlotte? He had a BIG motive, & he would have been big enough to "wrestle" or take the gun off Charlotte if there was a struggle etc. (Plus of course he also lives at the Braxton house & he could possibly have got hold of Charlotte's phone & thrown it behind the fridge in panic - rather than Kyle?). With the other secrets that he has been carrying around (killing Pirovic + knowing Hunter burnt down Leah's house), we know that he can keep these type of things to himself without it (outwardly) bothering him. Just saying.
Just another theory, which may be way off the mark (again!). We will see.
