Of course he had some feelings towards Tess if they had an ongoing affair! But Paddy said to Tess that he loved her only because she was dying..maybe in a way he did too, but Tess was very unbalanced and sad woman. Loopy really..And because of Paddy???!!! Well, whatever rocks your boat..;)

I agree, I think Paddy wanted to make Tess feel better which is why he said that.
