Storylines to get excited for in 2016
1. All over for Paddy!
We’ve seen him make more than a few blunders already including a mix up with his phone and the awkward moment he gave Rhona a necklace he bought for mistress Tess so it can only be a matter of time before Paddy’s wall of lies collapses around him.
When Aaron discovers the truth about Paddy’s affair, he takes drastic action that could lead to heartache for Rhona. But how will she feel when the truth finally comes out – and if Paddy decides to break away from Tess, might it be as easy to break off as he’d hope?
We could have sworn we have seen a glint of uneasy intensity in her eyes. Lock up the bunnies in the vets!
2. Robron reunite?
It’s what fans have been waiting for and it’s what bosses have been teasing at for some time – and the reunion Emmerdalians have been waiting for could just be around the corner. Robert and Aaron are set to be thrust into one another’s lives all over again when an emotional new storyline unfolds for Aaron.
And while we saw flashes of the sly Robert we know and love resurface during his showdown with Ross, we could discover a whole new side to him. Only ever temporarily shelved, this is a pairing to watch as 2016 gets underway. But will having Robert back in his life just ultimately lead to more pain for Aaron?
3. Ashley’s illness
We’re by no means excited to see Ashley deteriorate but we already know that John Middleton and Charlotte Bellamy are set to deliver some of 2016’s biggest and most memorable performances in their roles.
It will be a long, difficult and heart wrenching journey for viewers to invest in – but if this isn’t the storyline pulling in cabinets full of awards by the end of 2016, then we’d be very surprised.
4. New directions for the Whites
It’s been a largely miserable year for the White clan and Emmerdale really needs a Home Farm family with a bit of oomph. Thank goodness that the Whites seem to be getting that back. Putting Lawrence and Bernice together has been a stroke of genius and we can’t wait for the comedy and drama in equal measures.
Now that Chrissie is free of Robert and the looming trial, she will sort herself out and come back fighting as a brand new woman – complete with a new haircut. But who will she set her eyes on as a potential new suitor – and who has his eye on her?
5. And finally, we reckon Lachlan and Gabby are ones to watch…together, this duo could cause all manner of havoc in 2016.

New Emmerdale producer Iain MacLeod has revealed that Home Farm could be rocked by a surprise exit in the summer.
The White family will be taking centre stage again over the next few months, but the drama in store could potentially spell the end for one character.
Speaking about his future story plans, MacLeod teased: "There's a fair amount at Home Farm. In summer, there's a big Home Farm story coming up, the seeds of which have already been planted.
"It may or may not include an exit for one of the characters in that sort of story group, shall we say."
Viewers have recently seen Chrissie start to question everything she knows about her family following the revelation that Lawrence may not be her biological father.
She'll now start trying to distract herself by pursuing her former brother-in-law Andy Sugden, leading to a secret relationship between the pair.
Lawrence's marriage to Bernice has also occasionally come under strain due to their lack of physical intimacy, but they've been determined not to let this come between them.
Chrissie's son Lachlan also remains in the mix despite a quieter time for him recently. Could he be the one whose days in the village are numbered?

Emmerdale bosses are lining up a huge stunt which will rock the village in June.
Summer will kick off with a bang in the Dales as Priya Sharma, Rakesh Kotecha, Lawrence White and Nicola King all find themselves at the centre of a dramatic storyline.
Speaking at an Emmerdale press event, new producer Iain MacLeod revealed: "There's a big set piece, stunty sequence in June which will involve Priya, Rakesh, Lawrence and Nicola.
"That will be going on screen towards the end of June. That will be brilliant, spectacular and with high stakes."
With an action-packed year ahead for the ITV soap, MacLeod also shared further details of his plans for a spectacular thriller-style week of episodes in the autumn.
"In October time, we're talking about doing something that, from a narrative point of view, is a little bit different to the way in which we would normally tell stories," he explained.
"Something that's big, grand scale and tragic but also kind of mischievous and fun - kind of a bit bonkers, but the right side of bonkers, I think. I'm really excited about it.
"The managing director of ITV Studios North, when I pitched him the outline for it, said it's like The Big Chill meets Final Destination. Make of that what you will!
"That will involve essentially the whole village and a lot of high stakes jeopardy for a lot of character groups - not the least of which will be Cain, Moira, Holly, Adam, Victoria - all the big hitters really."
Promising that it'll be different from last year's helicopter crash disaster, MacLeod continued: "The idea was to do something that just felt like the same scale of the helicopter crash and all of that brilliant stuff last year, but just employing a different movie genre.
"Say that was a disaster movie, this would be kind of an action/thriller type set-up. I feel the disaster movie paradigm in soap has been done so brilliantly that I don't know how you'd top that now, really.
"So in the spirit of keeping the audience guessing a little bit, giving them something new and rewarding their loyalty by giving them something that they might not have seen before, we thought we'd go down a slightly different approach this time. It's not been done before in soap in the way that we are planning to do it, I think."

The upcoming plot with the Whites sounds intriguing, but the second spoiler (about the big set piece in June) would suggest that it's Lawrence whose leaving... Hopefully not, as I really like Lawrence and Bernice as a couple. In any case, it sounds great and I'm looking forward to it.
The spoiler interviews do not read at all for me for now as you have interpreted them.

Here's what David Brown for Radio Times published on 15 March [with underlining for my own doubtful issues]:

Speaking at a press conference, new producer Iain MacLeod said: "We have a big Home Farm story coming up for summer, the seeds of which are being laid now. It may or may not include an exit for one of the characters in that sort of story group [the White's?], shall we say."
So far, so ambiguous. But with such an infamous history of fatalities on the site, you wouldn't bet against one of the White family exiting feet first.
Current storylines for Emmerdale's wealthiest clan include Chrissie's paternity worries and romance with Andy, Lawrence's strictly-no-sex marriage to Bernice and Robert's on-off relationship with Aaron Livesy. And let's not forget the continuing worrying presence of Chrissie's shifty son Lachlan. Will one of them be meeting their maker later in 2016?

TW:
There are many published sources of Emmerdale interviews and gossip around right now but when they clearly include warning words such as "could", "looks like", "may or may not", or there are dodgy headline punctuation symbols (mainly "?"), then beware as reader! I really hate it when anyone like "Joe Public" seems to be being treated like a donkey to be easily led so someone else ["upstairs"] gets to get paid real money for it.
I think that John Bowe (Lawrence White) is an excellent actor who really isn't used enough on Emmerdale right now. The Emmerdale storyline about Lawrence and his past history is also really not very pleasant. Maybe actor John Bowe has had a better career offer elsewhere? Time will tell.
Whatever Iain MacLeod says right now, as far as I can tell Kate Oates has already set up the current storylines until around June 2016, so Iain MacLeod (for me anyway) for now seems to be autopiloting the on-going pre-arranged action and the inevitable consequences, as what happens until June 2016 is, of course, going to be set in stone as true Emmerdale history, and there seems nothing [it seems to me for now anyway] that there is anything that Iain MacLeod can really do about it in the near future. If Kate Oates has really set up a "ticking time-bomb" in place in the Emmerdale storylines which we as viewers have yet to see, then there seems to me that there is nothing that Iain MacLeod can do apart from deal with the inevitable fall-out as best that he can one day.
For now, I for one, do not know very much about Iain MacLeod (IM) and his personality, but I am, of course, building a more complete picture as he talks more publically and as time and events take their course and place. As such, the future for Emmerdale is not really clear for me. I do get the impression though that there have been many more PR releases and interviews from IM (as Series Producer) over the past 2 months or so than Kate Oates ever did within any 2 month period or so over her total of 3 years in the job, and IM really comes across to me, for now anyway, as someone new who is really trying to "sell the show" to keep it in the Soapland News Headlines and to increase viewer ratings? What also gets me is that IM has been terribly "both-sides-of-the-fence" in his latest interviews. IM is, for me for now anyway, very unclear about future Emmerdale storylines when based on his performance and answers during recent public interviews involving Emmerdale. No news is really better than unclear news, I reckon. For me for now anyway, Iain MacLeod is not really a trusted, authoritative and clear information source about Emmerdale.

Don't worry, my thoughts about Lawrence leaving were just a suggestion and no doubt the writers will change their minds many times before the storyline is actually broadcast. I agree with you about John Bowe and I really hope Lawrence isn't being written out as I can't imagine Chrissie taking over as the head of the White family. The spoilers were indeed vague but that's just to keep us watching!
