Chas Dingle to stab Diane Sugden in shock scenes

Chas's fear leaves Diane in peril next week.

    By Daniel Kilkelly, Digital Spy
    17 November 2015

Life at The Woolpack will take a very dark turn on Emmerdale next week as Chas Dingle accidentally stabs her friend Diane Sugden.

Chas will make the shocking move in the heat of the moment when she thinks that her stalker has broken into the pub to kill her.

The terrified landlady has convinced herself that she is being stalked by her enemy Emma Barton, but viewers have seen that Chas herself is responsible for the strange goings-on as she's been sleepwalking at the pub.

Still unaware of the reality behind the spooky situation, Chas is left fearful again next week when Emma returns to the village after a few days away.

Emma's presence sends Chas's paranoia into overdrive, especially when she wakes up one morning to find a large kitchen knife placed next to her bed.

Aaron is upset to see Chas overreact

Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas, revealed: "Chas has decided she's being stalked by Emma. Emma has always been a bit of a strange character anyway, but there's an extra insecurity there due to her relationship with James. Emma keeps thinking that James is going to reunite with Chas, even though Chas has got no interest in James at all anymore.

"When Chas finds the knife by her bed, she thinks it's definitely a message from Emma that she's going to have to watch her back. Chas thinks her life is in danger and she completely freaks out.

"Afterwards, Aaron and Cain both offer to do a stake-out at Emma's house, which does reassure Chas. Cain has really stepped up as head of the Dingles recently and his brother-sister relationship with Chas is really flowering."

Unfortunately, Chas's new-found relief doesn't last for long as she wakes up that night to hear a disturbance from downstairs. Diane is responsible for the noise as she is arriving home a little worse for wear after a night out.

Pargeter continued: "When Chas hears the noise, she thinks Emma has come to get her and she might lose her life. She takes the knife with her to defend herself and I think instinct just kicks in.

"What happens isn't self-defence, but it's fuelled by everything that's happened. Chas reacts in the worst way possible and just lunges forward. She doesn't know who's there, but she thinks it's either them or her and stabs Diane.

"It's complete panic afterwards and Chas doesn't believe that she could have done it. She runs away from the situation - it's a 'fight or flight' thing - but Cain goes after her. I think she needs professional help now, really. It's gone beyond the help that Aaron and Cain can give her."

Emmerdale fans will see Diane pull through after being rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, but there could be more trouble to come when she later receives some shocking news from the doctors.

Chas also has a long journey ahead as it's already been revealed that her ex-husband Gordon will soon be returning to the village, played by actor Gary Mavers.

Speaking about what's ahead, Pargeter added: "I really do hope that Chas and Diane can get their friendship back on track. They work great as a team and I love working with Liz.

"Chas has let Diane down quite a lot in the past and she's been so forgiving over the years. Whether this will be the final straw that makes Diane think they can't be friends anymore, I don't know! They always have their fallings out, but then they come back together again, so fingers crossed.

"I'm really enjoying the storylines at the moment, but I'm absolutely shattered to be quite honest with you. It's been absolute non-stop, as we've had long days and night shoots.

"I've also been moving house and renovating, so my personal life has been crazy as well. Normally you can leave work, go home and relax but everything's been crazy for a couple of months. I'm looking forward to taking on the next challenge, but hopefully in more relaxed surroundings at home!"

Emmerdale airs Diane's stabbing on Wednesday, November 25 at 7pm on ITV.

Emmerdale spoilers: Chas to be diagnosed with PTSD after stabbing Diane

The news will cause tensions between Doug and the Dingles.

    By Daniel Kilkelly, Digital Spy
    24 November 2015

Emmerdale will delve deeper into Chas Dingle's problems next week as she is diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Chas has been struggling badly ever since she witnessed Robert Sugden being shot in the village at the end of September.

The pub landlady has even convinced herself that she is being stalked following a series of strange events in her home, unaware that she has been committing the acts herself while sleepwalking.

The tense storyline comes to a head this fortnight as Chas becomes so terrified at The Woolpack that she accidentally stabs her friend Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen).

In the aftermath, Chas flees from the pub in terror and ends up disorientated in the woods - seeing strange visions of Robert as well as hearing noises of gunshots and voices.

The experience is so frightening for Chas that she trips and falls unconscious, but the ordeal leads to her finally getting the help she needs when a doctor later diagnoses her with PTSD.

Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas, revealed: "Chas doubts the diagnosis initially - I think many people do. It's mentioned to her by Aaron after all the wood stuff happens. He has an inkling that this is what she might be suffering from.

"Many people think it's only soldiers who might get PTSD, but it can happen to anybody. It's triggered by a traumatic event - like the diagnosis of an illness, the witnessing of a car crash, or being in a crash.

"It can have so many different triggers and it doesn't necessarily happen straight away. It's taken a while - and Chas has had quite a lot of bad things happen to her!"

Pargeter explained that Chas's issues date back to her previous ordeal with serial killer Cameron Murray, who was killed after a horrifying siege at the pub in 2013.

"I think it's nice for the show to say that these things don't always just go away, and that the repercussions can happen a couple of years after the event," she said.

"We've worked really closely with Mind, who have been quite happy for it to be a female character that isn't a soldier. We've been working with them on the symptoms and how it can manifest, so hopefully we have done it justice.

"Not every case is the same. There are loads of different triggers and it can manifest itself in different ways. The sleepwalking was quite interesting to discover, as it does cause sleeplessness. We then tied it in with the Emma stuff, so it's been nice to see it weaving its way through."

Chas's diagnosis will initially cause fireworks in the village, as Doug Potts wonders whether it's all a Dingle con to get her off the hook for stabbing Diane. Aaron, Cain and Zak all angrily jump to Chas's defence, and Doug is forced to sheepishly back down when the reality of the situation becomes clear.

On Chas being chosen for the plot, Pargeter joked: "I am extremely surprised that the whole village hasn't been diagnosed with it at some point. But that's what I mean - we have so many things happening in this village, so it's nice to see this.

"We had a serial killer who killed three people before getting his comeuppance - finally we are doing something about it. We're finally showing the audience that you can't go through all this stuff without having some consequence."

Lucy Pargeter talks about Gordon Livesy returning to Emmerdale

How would Chas react if she knew that Diane had bumped into her ex-husband Gordon?
She'd be very shocked about it because Gordon has been out of her and Aaron's lives for quite a few years now. Chas and Gordon didn't part on good terms, and ever since then she's had to work very hard with Aaron to make up for all the time she was out of his life when he was a kid. Gordon coming back now might turn everything upside down.

Can you see a chance for Chas and Gordon to make another go of things? Is there a spark?
Well, it's that thing about your first love: they'll probably always have that connection, and of course they have Aaron together. But Chas is in a very fragile state these days, so I don't think she'll be willing to jump back into another relationship with anyone.

For the very few episodes we actually saw
Chas & Gordon together years ago - I would
    agree with your opinion
But we are in Soap Kingdom of Retcon!

When the actors give these interviews -
they usually seem to have been primed
by producer to create a bit more drama!
