Definately not in good shape for a trainer
Coronation Street star Jimi Mistry has promised that there are "fireworks" in store once Leanne Tilsley's shady past is exposed to his on-screen family.
Mistry's character Kal Nazir has found love with Leanne, but her first meeting with Kal's mother Yasmeen goes badly wrong this week as her past mistakes come back to haunt her.
In a dramatic scene, Leanne's estranged husband Nick deliberately sabotages her big moment by informing Kal's family that she used to work as a prostitute - leaving Yasmeen convinced that Leanne is the wrong woman for her son.
Speaking on ITV's This Morning today (July 2), Mistry explained: "He's aware of it - she's worked on the streets but that gives her a fire, that's her character. The old Leanne Battersby was a real character back in the day. I think Kal accepts that, but the family is a different thing.
"I'm trying to get approval from [Yasmeen] for Leanne, and then this revelation comes out through Nick. It's not the best start, put it that way - there's fireworks!"
Sair Khan, who plays Kal's daughter Alya, added: "It's explosive when we find out. When we were filming those scenes, I was literally shocked!"
Mistry also explained that approval from his family is important to Kal, especially as his relationship with Alya and his teenage son Zeedan hasn't always been easy.
He said: "I've got an interesting relationship with both Alya and my son, who will be starting later on. I was away a lot when they were being brought up. I was in the army, so we have this estranged sort of relationship.
"I'm always very cautious about how she'll accept Leanne. [She seems] to accept that, which is a real nice thing for Kal but then of course there's going to be this whole other stuff."
Mistry also stayed coy when This Morning host Phillip Schofield suggested that Kal could turn out to be the real troublemaker in the Nazir family.
He laughed: "There's lots of things that could possibly happen, I'm telling you!"
Coronation Street airs Kal and Leanne's latest setback on Friday (July 4) at 7.30pm on ITV.
