Over on Coronation Street, Sophie Webster pays more visits to the homeless shelter as she grows closer to newcomer Maddie Heath.

As we've previously reported, mischievous Maddie (Amy Kelly) will soon break into the Websters' home in an attempt to steal back Sally's watch after Sophie tricks her into handing it over.

Maddie's burglary attempt sees her punch Tim Metcalfe when he catches her in the act, but he later lies to everyone by claiming that the intruder was a burly man.

Sophie (Brooke Vincent) rightly suspects that Tim is lying to cover his embarrassment, so she confronts Maddie about being the real culprit.

Maddie is impressed by Sophie's detective work and their previously-tense relationship takes a surprising turn when she remarks on how pretty Sophie is.

Sophie sees another side to Maddie when she explains the reasoning behind her criminal acts, revealing that she needs the money to help her little brother, who's even worse off than she is.

A few days later, Sophie heads back to the shelter and is concerned to find that Maddie is sporting a bruised face.

Maddie is nervous about Sophie asking too many questions about her background and dashes off, but when Sophie chases after her, will she get more than she bargained for?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, January 31 at 7.30pm on ITV.

Fiz overhears Anna and Roy talking and suspects that Hayley's death wasn't all it seemed.

When Fiz confesses her fears to Carla, she realises she's onto something. She decides to confront Roy, but will he tell her the truth?

Meanwhile, Gail is concerned as Nick slouches about the house, unable to face going to the Bistro. She blames Leanne for giving up on her husband, but Leanne knows she did everything she could to save her marriage. Saddened to hear of their break-up, Kal offers to keep an eye on Nick. Will he be able to bring him out of his depression?

Elsewhere, nursing a bruised face, Tim laps up Sally's praise as he continues to crack on that the intruder was a burly man, but Sophie's not so sure. Sophie tackles Maddie about the attempted burglary, and Maddie can't help being impressed by her nous.

Also, Tracy is irked when Amy says she'd rather stay with Michelle at The Rovers.

Finally, Dev and Kal discuss the idea of opening a local gym together.

Roy admits to a devastated Fiz that Hayley took her own life. Full of fury that Roy never told her of Hayley's plans, Fiz condemns Roy and Anna for lying to her.

Carla later comforts Fiz, reminding her that Roy needs her. Can Fiz bring herself to forgive Roy?

Meanwhile, Kal advises Nick that it's possible to move on from a marriage, but Nick coldly points out that Kal's wife died whereas Leanne is still alive. Hurt, Kal leaves Nick to wallow. Later, Stella feels a twinge of attraction as she serves Kal in the Bistro, but Kal has his eye on another…

Elsewhere, Maddie commends Sophie on her detective work and makes Sophie blush when she remarks on how pretty she is. Sophie reveals to Steph that Maddie broke into Number 4 and they tease Tim by picking holes in his story in front of an oblivious Sally.

Also, Beth tries to cook a meal, but realises she's no domestic goddess and resolves to get her job back.

    Wednesday

Roy remains inscrutable as Suzie the celebrant visits to discuss Hayley's funeral. Fiz is worried when Roy finally erupts and bemoans how everything has to be how Hayley wanted - she even scheduled her own death.

Feeling completely at sea, can Roy bring himself to attend Hayley's funeral?

Meanwhile, Stella is impressed as Dev and Kal work on their business plan for the gym, and Kal's left amused when Dev gets tongue-tied in his attempt to pay Stella a compliment.

Elsewhere, Sophie and Maddie row when Maddie demands the £50 Sophie promised her. Sophie is left curious when Maddie admits that she needs the money to help her little brother, who's worse off than she is.

Also today, Kylie tells Nick that he needs to stop feeling sorry for himself.

Finally, Beth gets her job back.

Tyrone is shocked to learn that Hayley took her own life and Roy is boycotting the funeral. Carla orders Roy to get dressed and they join the other residents as Hayley's cardboard coffin arrives in the hearse.

At the funeral, Fiz speaks about her memories of Hayley, but Roy feels he can't remain silent anymore. Is he about to reveal Hayley's secret?

Meanwhile, Sophie visits the shelter and is alarmed to see Maddie sporting a bruised face, but Maddie is annoyed to find that Sophie has been checking up on her background and dashes off. Just wanting to help, Sophie chases after Maddie, but will she get more than she bargained for?

Elsewhere, Nick feels like a burden to his family, so Leanne suggests he moves back into Victoria Court while she and Simon stay with Stella.

Also, Rob is put out when Tracy shuns his offer of a night out to spend time with Amy.

Finally, when the caterers fail to deliver the food for the wake, Steve improvises a spread at The Rovers. Andrea also drops by and lends a hand.

Despite Fiz, Anna and Carla's pleas, Roy insists on speaking out. To their relief, he tells the congregation that Hayley had her flaws but she was brave.

Later at the wake, Roy feels besieged by well-wishers and is desperate to escape the barrage of sympathy. Noticing Roy's absence, Anna and Fiz call at the café where Roy has left them a note...

Meanwhile, Sophie confides in Steph about Maddie's kiss. Steph is quick to realise that Sophie finds Maddie attractive, and thinks she ought to track her down. Will Sophie take the plunge and ask Maddie out?

Has Sophie not learnt from the years that her stints in the shelter lead to robberies and trouble. I can't even remember the story last time. I think it was a robbery at the shelter and then Kevin helped with the lottery money. I hav'nt got a good memory. Now her house is being targeted.

Coronation Street's Roy Cropper is forced to be honest with Fiz Stape in tonight's double bill (January 27) as she demands answers over Hayley's death.

Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) already has an inkling that there was more to Hayley's final day than met the eye, and her suspicions escalate when she realises that Anna and Carla are both hiding something from her.

Paying a visit to Roy (David Neilson) at the café, Fiz urges him to talk her through Hayley's final hours, wanting to know exactly what happened.

When an emotional Roy realises that Fiz isn't going to let this go, he reluctantly reveals that Hayley ended her own life. How will Fiz feel about Roy hiding this crucial information from her?

Is the implication that people should not volunteer to help at shelters?

After all the tears Roy is left alone with a few facts: Hayley is dead, she killed herself, he didn’t stop her and he can’t tell anyone. So in emotional turmoil, the funeral is going to be tough, to put it mildly.

And things aren’t made easier when Fiz overhears him talking to Anna about the final moments and begins to suspect. She confides her fears with the already clued up Carla and realises she’s right. From that moment she’s set on a course to confront Roy.

When he cracks and admits what Hayley did, Fiz is furious at being lied to and the pair end up having a rare argument at the point where Roy needs her most.

Roy is trying to hold it together to sort out the funeral but can’t help venting his feelings, exploding about the precision of the event and how it all has to be up to Hayley’s standards. It’s clear he’s furious with Hayley. This – and Tyrone – shakes Fiz into realising that she has to stand by Roy, even as he’s deciding to boycott the funeral.

Carla talks him round and soon they’re at the service listening to Fiz giving a moving speech about Hayley. But then it’s Roy’s turn. Can he actually make it through? Or will he tell the crowd what happened and why they shouldn’t be sad?

I can't believe some of the post on here.

its a soap. its a brilliant TV show but criticising it for "not being 100% true to life" and implying that somehow its going to put people off volunterring, or make them take their own life is a little bit OTT in my opinion.
