Emmerdale will air unmissable scenes this Christmas as a fire rages through Home Farm, leaving Megan Macey's life hanging in the balance.

The dramatic incident takes place after Megan's troubled brother Declan (Jason Merrells) sets fire to his mansion, wanting to destroy everything including himself.

Viewers have recently seen Declan's behaviour spiral out of control following a severe downturn in his fortunes, but he hits rock bottom later this month while facing a lonely Christmas and the prospect of a bleak New Year.

By chance, Charity Sharma (Emma Atkins) is on the scene as she is concerned for Declan's wellbeing after seeing him depressed at The Woolpack.

Horrified to see Declan's dark plan unfold, Charity desperately tries to convince him to get to safety before it's too late.

An Emmerdale source told Digital Spy: "Declan is eerily calm as the Home Farm fire rages around him, but he eventually decides that he can't go through with ending his own life and makes a dramatic escape from the scene with Charity in tow.

"What neither of them realise is that Megan has spotted the flames at Home Farm and has headed inside to find her brother, but when the situation gets worse, she's left trapped and unconscious in the burning building."

Emmerdale will air the dramatic scenes on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, ensuring that the festive season goes off with a bang.

David Metcalfe and Alicia Harding's wedding day will also be taking centre stage in the episodes, but with the happy couple facing a catalogue of disasters on the big day, it's anyone's guess whether they will actually tie the knot.

Will Megan survive? Could Gil come and save her?

I also read that Charity snogs Ross and takes him to bed whilst making sure Jai catches them. Isn't she repeating what Katie did with Declan?

Megan is worried about Declan's delusional behaviour over the business. Later, she is stunned to learn that the bank has decided to repossess.

Sam arrives wanting to be paid, but is shocked when Megan tells him they will have to let him go - news that is not set to go down well. However, Megan's greatest turmoil is how Declan will react to this latest financial development…

Meanwhile, Jai gives Rishi food for thought by suggesting that Charity doesn't deserve the money he put into the firm. Charity seethes when Rishi tells her that he needs to be properly contracted and paid from now on. Later, Jai invites Noah round on Christmas Day, but Charity threatens it'll be the last time. It seems Charity is hell-bent on revenge.

Elsewhere, Arthur is instantly suspicious of 'Santa' when he catches him re-adjusting his beard. His suspicions grow when Santa fails to recall what Arthur has asked for In his Christmas letter. Arthur tackles the matter head on and pulls at Santa's beard to reveal Paddy. Poor Arthur is crushed and refuses to tell anyone else what he wants for Christmas. How will the grown-ups get round this?

Also today, Alicia asks Jacob to give her away at the wedding.

    Tuesday - Christmas Eve

As David celebrates his last night of freedom at The Woolpack, he is aware of Priya's sad eyes on him. David tries to comfort Priya, but fighting her tears, she tells him that she wants him to call off the wedding and be a proper family with her and their baby.

Filled with guilt, David pulls Priya close for a hug - just in time to be observed by Val, who has arrived in the search of more booze. Later, Val gives Priya a stern warning to stay away from David, Alicia and their wedding, but will her warning have the opposite effect?

Meanwhile, Declan is shocked to learn that Megan has sacked Sam. He confronts Megan and demands to know what's going on. When Megan finally hits him with truth, Declan's anger spills over as he grabs her and pushes her against the wall. It's the final straw for Megan who appears with bags packed, ready to leave him and her life at Home Farm behind. Will she listen to Declan's pleas to stay?

Elsewhere, Laurel and Ashley's attempts to con Arthur into handing over his Christmas list to Santa fail. In a bid to retrieve his letter from the post box, Ashley gets his hand stuck, much to the hilarity of others.

Also today, vengeful Rachel and Sam let themselves into Home Farm to take what is theirs.

    Wednesday Christmas Day

    18:15 GMT on ITV

    Hour-long episode

It's the day of Alicia and David's wedding, but everything seems to be going wrong. Alicia's boiler has packed in, so she can't get ready at home, then Val accidentally burns her hair whilst styling it. Val has also got a bad feeling that Priya will spoil the wedding day and tells Alicia why. Over with the Pollards, David is violently sick. When Priya sees Alicia in the window she gives her a murderous glare - perhaps Val is right?

With doubts setting in, Alicia rings David to tell him her concerns. An optimistic David puts the day back on track, but their day is not smooth running yet, as more surprises and trouble turn up. There's a dress disaster, a shock and some bad news. Could Alicia and David's happy day be in jeopardy?

Meanwhile, Sam is overwhelmed with guilt and sneaks back to Home Farm to replace the stolen presents, clumsily knocking the tree over before leaving. Not long after, Declan comes home with Charity, as they have been talking at The Woolpack. However, Charity is disturbed by Declan's attitude and soon leaves. Worried about the way she left things, Charity decides to go back to Home Farm. She arrives and is shocked to see Declan with a petrol can.

Declan is stunned that Charity has caught him in the act of pouring petrol around the house. Hell bent on destroying everything, including himself, Declan continues to douse the house with petrol. With Charity's words of protest having no effect, Declan lights a match and drops it on the Christmas tree…

Elsewhere, Rachel gets a text from Sam to meet him at Robblesfield Rock. When they meet up, Rachel is bemused as he tells her to close her eyes and wait. Rachel accepts a surprise proposal from Sam and happily puts a blue plastic ring on her finger.

Also today, Kerry's plan to make Christmas perfect ends in disaster when she gets carried away with Dan and burns the turkey.

Finally, will little Arthur's Christmas hopes come true?

Thursday - Boxing Day / St. Stephen's Day

    18:15 GMT on ITV

    Hour-long episode

The fire starts to take hold at Home Farm. Charity tries to throw water on the flames, but a satisfied Declan watches on as the blaze spreads even more. With a fleeing Charity horrified by the unfolding events, Declan pours himself a drink while the room burns around him. However, while alone, Declan finally begins to panic. Charity is about to go back inside when Declan leaps out of the window, unable to go through with his suicide. They get in Charity's car and drive off.

At the same time, Megan has seen the blaze from the woods. After calling the fire brigade, she arrives at Home Farm to save Declan. Getting into trouble inside, Megan fights to remain conscious as she continues to look for Declan. She's shocked to see the stairs have gone and all of a sudden a ceiling beam falls, knocking her unconscious. The sound of sirens grows louder as Megan lies unconscious, trapped in the burning house…

Meanwhile, Sam's engagement joy is cut short when he hears about the Home Farm fire and panics that he started it. He tells Rachel about the Christmas tree and he is determined to go up and see if there's anything he can do. The fire at Home Farm continues to rage as Sam, Rachel, Lisa and Zak approach. Sam is ashamed and afraid as the fire crew enters the house to rescue Megan. Sam is distraught, thinking he might have killed her.

Elsewhere, Kerry comforts Brenda at Gennie's grave.

    Friday

Home Farm is burnt to a shell and Megan's life hangs in the balance. As the fire investigation officers look over the smouldering embers of Home Farm, a desolate Sam watches from a distance.

Later, Sam is questioned about the fire and his nerves take over. Rachel tries to reassure Sam that he didn't cause the fire, but Sam is not convinced…

Meanwhile, Declan is feeling guilty as the police interview him about the fire, but Robbie spots the glances between Declan and Charity and is suspicious. Robbie confronts them and Declan is too broken up to deny it. Charity has too much to lose and tries to take control of a distraught Declan, but he is adamant that he wants to confess. Embarking on a cover-up, Charity heads back to Home Farm and deletes all CCTV evidence of her and Declan being at the scene. Stumbling upon footage of Sam entering the building, Charity starts to work out her strategy…

Elsewhere, Cain senses that James has feelings for Moira and announces that he is taking her away for New Year's Eve.

This is Charity we're talking about. She wasn't happy Sam was with 'that dirty little scrubber,' even though pot calling kettle springs to mind! So she's probably thinking he made his bed now he can lie in it.

Over on Emmerdale, new pictures show the moment that Declan Macey sets fire to Home Farm on Christmas Day.

Declan (Jason Merrells) resorts to the drastic measure as he wants to destroy everything - including himself - following his recent personal and financial problems.

With Charity Sharma (Emma Atkins) concerned for Declan's wellbeing, she heads to Home Farm just in time to see the businessman clutching a petrol can.

Declan is taken aback for a moment as Charity has caught him in the act of pouring petrol all around the house, but he soon ignores her words of protest by carrying on.

Soon Declan lights a match and drops it on the Christmas tree, leaving Charity shocked and fearful as they watch the flames take hold.

Declan's dark actions will lead to a fire raging through Home Farm - with his sister Megan once again bearing the brunt of his behaviour as she ends up trapped inside the burning building…
