Denise helps Ian to prepare the canapés for Sadie's salon opening, but is soon left making them on her own. Feeling under pressure, Denise becomes frustrated over Ian's poor attempt at getting more help. It's clear that Ian is becoming overwhelmed over his lack of staff, his money worries and the continued pressure from Carl.

When Ian tries to pressure Jean into helping, Ollie intervenes and gets him to back off. Now totally desperate, Ian drags Bobby in to help. Unfortunately, this is the last straw for Denise. Telling Ian exactly what she thinks of him, she ends their relationship.

    Danny reveals that Janine's news.
Meanwhile, Michael finds Danny sitting in his desk at the gym. It turns out that Janine has bought Jack's half of the business. Michael is livid over the news and tries to seek support from Dot, pointing out how sad Jim will be when he realises that Basher Brannings is no more. However, Jack assures Dot that the sale took place on the condition that the name would remain the same. When Dot later warns Michael that Scarlett is suffering due to her parents' feud, he decides to take on a more professional attitude. This impresses Janine, but irritates Danny.

Elsewhere, when Bianca convinces Kat to go on a double date, Kat is pleasantly surprised to find that the guy she's been set up with is very attractive. However, as Kat enjoys herself, Bianca quickly becomes jealous despite having her own date, Colin. Bianca attempts to convince Kat to swap dates, but when the two men overhear this conversation, they make a swift exit.

Also today, Poppy accidentally tells Lola that the salon discount is 35% rather than 25% but denies all responsibility when Sadie finds out, while Carl's mind games continue as he tells Kirsty that a relationship between them wouldn't work.

    Tuesday
When Ian struggles to make amends with Denise, he realises that he'll have to do something to prove how much she means to him. Ian asks Peter to help convince Denise to come to the restaurant for a special dinner with him. Peter quickly realises that Denise is too angry to agree to this, but he does manage to convince her to give Ian just five minutes of her time. All the while, Peter continues to be bombarded with mysterious phone calls, telling the person on the other end not to come to Walford.

Cindy has broken in and made herself at home.
Later, Ian's plans pay off when he and Denise manage to get things back on track. When they all arrive home again, Peter is shocked to see that the Beale house has been broken into. However, all becomes clear when Cindy Junior is sitting there…

Meanwhile, Max and Jack find their car tyres slashed at the car lot. A package also arrives for Lauren containing a bottle of whiskey from an anonymous sender, which clearly rattles her. Max is convinced that Carl is responsible and tensions flare up at The Vic when the troublemaker provokes Max with comments on a family drinking habit. Max flies at Carl, forcing Jack and Alfie to intervene. However, it's clear that his reaction is exactly what Carl wanted.

Elsewhere, as Shirley constantly complains about her room, Kim reveals to Patrick that Phil is secretly paying her rent. With Kim becoming increasingly irritated, she seems close to revealing the truth. Later, as Shirley and Patrick joke about Shirley's room, Kim snaps and reveals that Phil is the only reason she has a room at all. Shirley is horrified by the revelation.

Also today, Poppy finally admits to Sadie that Lola's mistakes with the discounts were her fault, Lauren sees Jake again at counselling but isn't pleased to see a wedding ring on his finger, Bianca and Kat go to another singles night but later decide that they are happy without men, Tamwar asks Alice out on another date, and Poppy is upset when she sees Fatboy with another girl who she presumes to be Chloe, the girl he's been texting.

    Thursday
Shirley demands answers from Kim and Denise after learning that Phil has been paying her rent. Soon afterwards, Shirley toys with Phil at the café to see whether he will admit the truth. When Phil fails to do so, Shirley reveals that she knows everything, so he takes her back to his house to explain. At the Mitchells', Phil admits that he was just looking out for Shirley, but she questions why. It's clear that Phil still genuinely cares about Shirley, but old tensions erupt when she claims that he must just feel guilty for covering up the truth about Heather's murder.

Later, Shirley provokes an argument with Sharon at the B&B, but Denise takes her aside to see whether she will open up over her feelings for Phil. After some thought, Shirley returns to Phil's, but it's not to forgive him. Shirley tells Phil that it will take a lot more money for her to keep quiet about his murder cover-up…

Cindy tries to convince Ian to let her stay in Wal
Meanwhile, Ian wants Cindy Junior to go back to Devon. Peter doesn't make her feel welcome either, as he fears she could reveal what happened in Devon. Cindy tries every trick she can to convince Ian into letting her stay, but he knows that she has only come to Walford because her grandmother is moving to Plymouth. In the end, Cindy manages to charm Ian and he agrees that she can stay for a few days, which leaves Peter concerned. What is Peter's secret?

Elsewhere, Lauren decides to organise a party to celebrate Abi's successful exam results. Unfortunately, when Abi arrives at the gathering, her reaction is not what Lauren had hoped for. When Jay asks why she is in a bad mood, Abi blurts out the truth - she didn't get the grades she needs to go to university. Abi soon realises that Lauren has overheard her conversation, and she tells her sister that it's all her fault.

Also today, Fatboy denies having an affair and reveals that he has been working with Chloe at McKlunky's as he wants to make some extra money so he can take Poppy on holiday.

Finally, Jean is horrified to discover that Big Mo is the vegetable thief at the allotment and is even more shocked that she already knows Ollie.

    Friday

Phil succumbs to Shirley's demands by giving her £1,000, but she demands that he must triple it by 5pm. When Carl sees Shirley taunting Phil, he becomes intrigued by their relationship and uses this situation to mock Phil. Needing to raise some money quickly, Phil puts pressure on Max to sell more cars and he also arranges another dodgy mysterious deal over the phone.

Carl purposely parks in front of Phil's house.
Later, Phil visits the B&B and hands over £2,000 to Shirley, hoping this will satisfy her. Unfortunately for him, she warns that it's just a down payment and she will call the police if she doesn't get more. When Phil returns home, he finds that a mischievous Carl has purposely parked in front of his house. Phil firmly tells him to move, and although Carl does, it's clear that a battle could be brewing between the two men…

Meanwhile, Dexter learns that he won't be able to go on the camping trip as Phil wants him to drop off a car. Dexter is annoyed over the news, while Jay is also frustrated that the holiday plans are falling through. Although Sam feels that Dexter should be more committed to work, he later helps him out and reveals that he has found a way for them to all still go on their camping trip. Dexter enlists Jay into the plan and things look back on track.

Elsewhere, Lola considers not going on the holiday as she has Lexi to think about. Abi also changes her mind when she hears that Lola has pulled out. After hearing that Lola is no longer going away, Cindy thinks there may be a place for her on the trip. However, Sam soon manages to manipulate Billy to persuade Lola to go away. Eventually the holiday is back on for everyone.

Also today, Lauren reveals that she has found a way that Abi can still study to become a vet, while Shirley becomes cruel to Jean and warns that Ollie will eventually leave her.

EastEnders hardman Phil Mitchell finds himself in a tricky position next week as his ex-partner Shirley Carter decides to blackmail him.

Phil (Steve McFadden) is targeted by Shirley after she discovers that he has been helping her out by secretly paying her rent.

Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) is responsible for letting the news slip as she loses her temper with Shirley, who is constantly complaining about her room at the B&B.

Shirley (Linda Henry) is horrified when Kim snaps that she wouldn't have a room at all if it wasn't for Phil.

When Shirley demands to know why Phil is helping her, it's clear that he still cares about her. However, Shirley is convinced that Phil's main motivation is the guilt he feels for covering up the truth about Heather's murder.

Realising that she can use this situation to her advantage, ruthless Shirley warns that it will take a lot more money for her to keep quiet about what she knows.

With Shirley threatening to go to the police unless Phil hands over £3,000 to her, how will he deal with her threats?

EastEnders airs these scenes on Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23 on BBC One.

EastEnders' Branning family are in for a tough time next week as someone appears to have launched a hate campaign against them.

The trouble begins shortly after Carl White (Daniel Coonan) has threatened to take revenge against Max, promising to make his life hell.

Max (Jake Wood) gets his first sign of trouble when vehicles at the car lot have their tyres slashed.

A package containing a bottle of whiskey also arrives for recovering alcoholic Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa), and although she insists that she's fine, it's clear that the vindictive act has rattled her.

A smug Carl arrives at the scene.

Unsurprisingly, Max is convinced that Carl is responsible for the mischief, especially when he makes sly remarks about a family drinking problem.

However, with no proof, Max merely comes across as aggressive and irrational when he angrily confronts Carl.

Next week's episodes also see Carl challenging Phil Mitchell's status as top dog on Albert Square, taunting him when he sees that the hardman is having trouble with his ex-partner Shirley.

Carl winds up Phil (Steve McFadden) further by purposely parking right in front of his house. Is a big feud brewing between the two men?
