Laurel thanks Ashley for how he handled things, but it's obvious that Ashley is livid as he explains that he hasn't done it for her. Rodney seems to be the only person who can get through to Gabby, so he invites her for tea. Struggling with the disdain Gabby has for her, Laurel agrees that she can go.

My intense dislike of Marlon & Laurel, and reading that the actors thing everyone wants to see them together - newsflash, not everyone does, means I've temporarily stopped watching Emmerdale. I'm chosen to keep up with the show via this site. If Gabby actually puts a spanner in the works my interest may be renewed. I don't want to see Ashley and Laurel reuniting, that would be a step too far. What would make me really happy would be to see Marlon & Laurel emigrate, never to be heard of again.

It's an emotional time for Ashley Thomas on Emmerdale this evening (August 31) as he must tell his children that he won't be getting back together with Laurel.

Tonight's episode sees Ashley (John Middleton) arrive at Mulberry and tell Laurel that it's time to be honest with the kids about their situation. Although Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) is reluctant, Ashley stands firm as he doesn't want them find out from someone else like he had to.

Sitting down with Gabby and Arthur, Ashley and Laurel explain that their separation will be permanent - and also reveal that Marlon is now Laurel's boyfriend.

Ashley urges the kids to accept Marlon, but Gabby isn't at all pleased by what she's hearing…

Never really been a fan of Ashley but it's good to see him challenging Laurel imo.
