Emmerdale star Sophie Powles has revealed details of turbulent times ahead for her character Holly Barton, who will soon turn back to drugs in her desperate state.

Holly successfully fought a heroin addiction in 2010, but episodes airing next month will see her tempted back to her old ways as she continues to grieve for the loss of her father John.

Unable to deal with her pain for any longer, Holly gets in touch with an old contact and buys some heroin.

Powles told Soaplife: "[She's after] a fix. She needs the pain to go. She can't cope at all - too much has happened. Alex tells her she's the strong one in the family, and says she needs to do whatever she has to do to get them through it.

"The only thing Holly can think of to numb the pain is heroin. She has no intention of OD'ing. She thinks she'll have one fix and work out what to do next. She takes Alex at his word in completely the wrong way."

Reports have suggested that Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) will find Holly slumped unconscious outside the village's garage after she has succumbed to temptation.

Discussing how the rest of the Bartons might react, Powles added: "They wouldn't understand it's her escape. It'll always be an issue for Holly - the heroin ghost."

Coming up in Emmerdale, Cain Dingle becomes an unlikely hero when Holly Barton suffers a heroin overdose.

Holly (Sophie Powles) is plagued by her old temptations in the coming days, struggling to cope with the death of her dad John and the ongoing problems in her family.

Deciding that she needs a fix, Holly makes contact with a drug dealer and buys some heroin. She's then left in turmoil as she wonders whether to take the drug, but finally succumbs on the day that the Bartons scatter John's ashes.

Cain (Jeff Hordley) is later horrified when he finds Holly slumped outside the garage after an overdose. Although his injured leg is in agony, he tries to bring Holly round, drags her into a car and rushes to get help. How will the Bartons react when they realise that one of their biggest enemies has saved Holly's life?

    Monday

At the Barton house, Holly is distracted by a noise and opens Moira's bedroom door to find her mum weeping over a photo of John. Holly steels herself before comforting Moira. Later, Moira panics to see that Holly has stripped and washed her bedding. When Moira has a go at her because the smell reminded her of John, Holly doesn't know how to handle it and Hannah arrives to find the pair arguing.

Holly is hurt when Hannah lays into her about upsetting Moira and implies John's accident was her fault because of her attitude before Christmas. Moira is cool when Holly tries to apologise, and Holly later reaches the end of her tether when Adam also has a go at her. She dials a number, wanting to get hold of some drugs…

Meanwhile, Ruby pays a visit to the Thomas household to give Sandy an assessment. However, Ashley is frustrated when Sandy refuses Ruby's help. Later, Rachel worries that she may have got the wrong impression when Ruby tells her that she feels sorry for Ashley as Sandy's the stubborn one.

Elsewhere, Rhona agrees to marry Paddy when he proposes to her at the pub, Cain is awkward about Cameron being back, while Nicola is tired after her night with Jimmy and complains to Laurel that they had 'an accident' and she needs to get the morning after pill.

    Tuesday

Ashley tries to help Sandy up out of bed, but loses patience and heads out - leaving Sandy feeling helpless. Rachel then arrives to clean, but Ashley tells her that she isn't needed and feels conflicted as he leaves Sandy in the house alone. In the café, Laurel is confused about Ashley not needing Rachel today and gives her a key so that she can do the ironing. Sandy is mortified when Rachel finds him struggling to strip the bed and she sees that he's had an accident.

Later, Ashley returns to find Rachel helping Sandy up and feels genuine guilt when he sees what's happened. Rachel questions how long Sandy has been left in bed alone. As the day continues, Sandy is scared when he hears Ashley telling Laurel that they need to look at care homes. Ashley then prays in church, scared by what he's turning into…

Meanwhile, Holly walks into a dingy pub and is told that her old dealer Dan is in prison. However, Vince offers to sell her some gear himself. Holly hands him some money and heads out with heroin. Back at home, Holly feels guilty when her mum apologises, promising that things will get better.

Elsewhere, Jimmy is horrified as Nicola suggests a vasectomy, Nikhil has to be taken to A&E after his ankle seizes up during a run, while Paddy and Marlon are excited about the wedding - but it's clear that Rhona's finding it a bit full-on.

    Wednesday

Laurel snubs Rachel in the café when she accusingly asks about Sandy. At the same time, Ashley checks that Sandy doesn't need anything before he heads out, and Sandy is ashamed at being treated like a child. Later, the pair make their peace - but it doesn't last for long when Arthur chokes on a plastic piece from Sandy's model boat. Laurel and Ashley decide to take Arthur to hospital to be on the safe side.

Rachel wonders what to do when Ali tells her about Arthur's accident, worrying that it involved Sandy. She goes to check up on him as Ashley and Laurel arrive back. Soon afterwards, Laurel tries to assure Ashley that it was just an accident and is sympathetic towards Sandy. However, Ashley is hard and bitter, telling his father that he can't trust him. Sandy's left feeling helpless and frightened.

Meanwhile, Holly's head is all over the place when Moira suggests that they should think about where to scatter John's ashes. Holly is tempted by the heroin in her bedroom, but is snapped out of it when Moira calls her for tea. The Bartons sit down for the meal and Moira tells them she's thought of a place for John's ashes - down by the river.

Elsewhere, Nicola goes all-out to convince Jimmy to have the snip, while Amy is frustrated that Pollard is still moping around and refusing to open the B&B.

    Thursday

Holly pockets the heroin as Moira wants the Bartons to scatter the ashes. She pleads with her mum, not wanting to go, but reluctantly heads out. Soon afterwards, Moira scatters the ashes while Hannah lays some flowers. However, Holly is caught up in her own grief, wanting to be alone.

Later, Alex catches Holly in the barn at Butler's with the heroin. He pours it onto the floor, but reluctantly agrees not to say anything to Moira. Holly heads out, walking towards the garage, distraught and not wanting to talk to anyone. Later, Cain is shocked when he finds her slumped on the floor outside the garage after taking the heroin…

Meanwhile, Sandy is shocked when Ashley suggests looking at a care home. He hates every minute as Jane Simmons takes them round Greenside Retirement Home, but he tries his best to appease Ashley.

Elsewhere, Pollard sacks Amy and Victoria when he overhears them gossiping about him to Brenda, while Jimmy mopes about Nicola's sex ban and is even more against the idea of a vasectomy after speaking to Bob.

Cain's leg is in agony and he struggles as he tries to bring Holly round. He manages to get her into a car and staggers into the driver's seat. Seeing Alex on Main Street, Cain tells him to contact Moira - explaining that he needs to get Holly to the hospital quickly. Soon afterwards, Alex goes to Butler's and bursts in, telling the Bartons that Cain has taken Holly to the hospital.

Later, Holly begins to come round and Moira struggles with the repercussions that Cain saved her life. Moira cradles her daughter, taking some comfort when she promises that she didn't overdose on purpose. However, Adam lays into Holly, adamant that Cain supplied her with the drugs.

Meanwhile, Laurel finds an upset Sandy in the bedroom of the care home and promises that he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to. Back home, Ashley is thwarted when Laurel tells him that they can't put Sandy in a care home after seeing how upset he was earlier. Ashley is furious with Sandy for getting Laurel's sympathy, leaving his dad fretting.

Elsewhere, Pollard finds an unlikely shoulder to cry on in Brenda and agrees to give the girls their jobs back, while Megan finds out that Declan is in financial trouble after finding some worrying files on his laptop.

    Friday

Turner visits Sandy and is pleased when he manages to tempt him to a game of dominoes in the pub later. However, Ashley forces Sandy to stay at home and rest after he asks for his son's assistance in getting to The Woolpack. Sandy is left feeling alone and isolated.

In the pub, Ashley lies to Turner, claiming that Sandy won't be coming as he's not well enough. Rachel overhears this and heads out to see Sandy. When Rachel discovers that Sandy didn't go because he couldn't get himself there, she inwardly seethes at Ashley. However, Sandy throws her out when she suggests that Ashley's not treating him properly.

Meanwhile, Holly is delicate when she returns home from hospital. Later, Moira is faced with a dilemma when Andy reluctantly confirms that Adam isn't up to the job of farm manager. Adam is stunned when Moira suggests that it would be for the best if Andy took over. As Adam reacts badly, Moira fears that her family is crumbling around her.

Elsewhere, Megan warns Declan that he'll have to make it worth her while if he wants the festival to be a success, Charity moans about being bored and is pleased when Katie suggests trying again for a job on the festival, while Amy's thrown to find Brenda helping out in the B&B.

Emmerdale's Rachel Breckle urges Sandy Thomas to open up over Ashley's mistreatment in tonight's (March 16) episode of the soap.

Rachel's concern for Sandy (Freddie Jones) grows when she overhears that he has failed to turn up for a game of dominoes with Turner at The Woolpack. Although Ashley (John Middleton) claims that Sandy is having an off day and can't make it, he has actually refused to take his father to the pub.

A suspicious Rachel (Gemma Oaten) immediately pays a visit to Sandy and gently questions him over the situation. Sandy continues to cover for his son, but Rachel can sense that something is wrong.

When Rachel declares that she knows Ashley isn't treating him properly, how will a shocked Sandy react?

I think Sarah when Ashley's halo slipped it covered his ears. It could be worse imagine Sandy and Adam having a conversation ,Adam always shouts when he speaks.
