Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery has questioned whether her character Lady Mary will ever find true love.

Speaking in a behind-the-scenes documentary, the actress said that she believes she may not reunite with former lover Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens).

"They were meant to be together. But maybe they can't be, maybe it is too late," she explained.

Dockery added: "She is with this person who she is going to spend the rest of her life with but she doesn't love him."

Creator Julian Fellowes commented on the storyline: "Matthew is a man in hell and the only thing to do is punish himself. Sin must not be rewarded in his mind."

Downton Abbey: Behind the Drama airs tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1, ahead of the show's festive special which will be broadcast on Christmas Day at 9pm on ITV1.

Don't say that Parkerman. It's bad enough having Mr Bates and Anna torn apart without them doing the same to Matthew and Mary.

Coronation Street's Kym Marsh has revealed that she would love a part on Downton Abbey.

The actress praised former co-star Rob James-Collier, who plays Thomas on the ITV period drama.

She told PA: "I watched the first series but I never watched the second one as I just couldn't catch it regularly because of my new baby.

"I've bought it on DVD so I intend to watch that, I loved the first series so much that I have to see the second one.

"It's a far cry from playing Liam! I think he's done a great job and we're all very proud of him."

Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor on Coronation Street, added: "I'd love to do a period drama. I'd love to be in Downton Abbey, it would be amazing. I don't think they'd bring me in as well, though!

"I'd have to play a maid, though, I wouldn't be one of the posh ones, I'd definitely be a maid. It's always nice to do different things and dress up, it's like playing dress up as an actor."

    Please, noooo

Katherine Kelly would be brilliant, but Kym Marsh absolute nightmare.

When are corrie going to give the mad women the boot. She's got no chance in getting a role in any quality drama as she can't act for toffee. The sooner the powers that be get rid of her, Stelllaaaaaa and toxic Tracy the better.

Alex Kingston has revealed details of her new Upstairs Downstairs character.

The Doctor Who actress will play Dr Blanche Mottershead, the younger sister of Dame Eileen Atkins's alter ego Lady Holland.

Kingston told The Sun: "I can say the character is very complex, very intriguing and very straight-talking. She has some very dark secrets of her own."

Blanche was brought in after Atkins announced her departure from the period drama after one series.

Upstairs Downstairs will return to BBC One in spring of 2012.
