in Emmerdale, it's the moment that Nikhil and Gennie fans have been waiting for as the pair finally give into their feelings for each other and share a passionate kiss.

With Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) still preparing to leave Sharma & Sharma, she has a heart-to-heart with Nikhil at the factory after he gets them a bottle of wine.

Nikhil (Rik Makarem) soon lays his heart on the line, telling Gennie that he doesn't think Nicky is good enough for her. When a frustrated Gennie says that Nikhil's recent behaviour amounts to stalking, he finally cracks and admits that he loves her.

Gennie is stunned by Nikhil's confession, but it's not long before she moves in for a steamy kiss. Will she decide to dump Nicky for Nikhil?

Nicky thinks Gennie is avoiding him as she struggles to hide her confused emotions. Nikhil is encouraged when Gennie accepts his apology for the way he treated her and he tells her to take the afternoon off, instantly regretting his generosity. Soon afterwards, Gennie talks to Bob about her feelings towards Nikhil and leaving her job at the factory, but Bob thinks she needs to answer her own questions.

Later, Gennie feigns annoyance when Nikhil texts her to return to work and she masks her excitement. Nikhil has got a bottle of wine and admits that he's missed her. Nikhil tells Gennie about following Nicky into town and she accuses him of stalking. When Nikhil fumbles and explains that he loves her, they kiss - but the moment is broken when Jai arrives and Gennie leaves awkwardly.

Meanwhile, Rhona decides to cheer up a forlorn Marlon by arranging a dinner party, which Laurel and Ashley go along to. However, Marlon cancels and Laurel hides her alarm when Rhona suggests that it's something to do with a married woman. Later, Ashley heads to the pub to buy a bottle of wine, and Marlon squirms when Ashley tells him they're all talking about the married woman he's seeing.

Elsewhere, Andy and Debbie's plan does not go down well with Alicia and Cameron, who can't believe they plan to have a baby. Debbie's shocked by Alicia's strength of opinion as she refuses to be a part of it.

Ashley is irritated as Laurel pushes him into setting a date for the vow renewals, but he reluctantly agrees to the Thursday before Christmas. Marlon is gutted that Laurel is renewing her vows, and Ashley simmers as he watches the pair talking in the café. Back home, Laurel is speechless when Ashley finally cracks and asks if she has slept with Marlon. Ashley pushes for a straight answer, but is floored when Laurel admits that she had feelings for him.

Laurel makes excuses for her closeness to Marlon, saying that she loves Ashley and couldn't betray him. Ashley pushes her as to whether she loves Marlon, but leaves devastated when Laurel hesitates to answer. Marlon sees Ashley and realises that he knows, so he heads over to try and comfort a distressed Laurel. But Laurel pushes Marlon away - she wants Ashley.

Meanwhile, Nikhil is delighted when Gennie tells him that she's going to dump Nicky as she can't fight her feelings for him. She agrees to meet Nikhil later and wants him to shred her resignation letter. In the pub, Nicky tells Gennie that he's getting her a puppy and she gets emotional, overwhelmed by his kindness. However, despite his generosity, Gennie explains that she can't be with him. Nicky is devastated and warns Gennie off Nikhil, saying he is twisted and a liar.

Elsewhere, Jai's suspicious when Priya won't give anything away about her new man; Debbie feels guilty about not letting Cameron get closer while Alicia puts on a brave face for Debbie and tells her that Andy's got his job back with John.

Laurel is desperate to speak to Ashley as she gets the kids ready for school, but Ashley is not interested. Laurel begs Sandy to talk to him, but Sandy tells her it's too late. Later, Marlon goes to see Laurel. He is determined to talk to Ashley, as he can't live with destroying a family.

Later, Laurel's filled with guilt and terrified to see Marlon in the church, trying to explain to Ashley how it was all his fault. Marlon admits he loves Laurel, so Ashley tells him they've destroyed a family as he heads off.

Meanwhile, Priya is wearing a necklace that she says is borrowed from a friend - yet it clearly bears a striking resemblance to her mother's missing necklace. Georgia is worried, believing that Priya has stolen her necklace. When Jai quizzes Priya over the matter, she explains that it was a gift from a man and is furious she is being accused. Later, Priya questions Cain about where he got the necklace from, but he convinces her that he found it in the back of a Mercedes.

Elsewhere, Nicky wants Gennie to change her mind but is humiliated when she insists that she wants Nikhil, while Moira's devastated on her return to find that the kids know about the affair.

Jai is alarmed to receive a phone call informing him that Rishi has crashed his car. Rishi returns home with his arm in a sling, but Jai is concerned to hear that the wheel came off the vehicle as he was driving. Big alarm bells ring for the brothers when Cain casually enquires if their dad needs help fixing up his car, as neither brother has made the crash public.

At the same time, Cain has seduced Priya and secretly takes her mobile to text a photo of her sleeping to Jai. When Jai receives the text, he knows it's from Cain, as he is the only person sick enough to do this. Charity's worried when Rishi gets a call from the garage explaining that his wheel nuts had been loosened. The garage suggests that he calls the police. Jai wants to tell the police their suspicions about Cain, but Charity advises him against it - she thinks they should play it Cain's way.

Meanwhile, Laurel tries to talk to Ashley but he's doing everything to avoid her. Sandy thinks Ashley still loves her and Laurel hopes he's right. Laurel asks Ashley if he wants her to leave, but he wants them to pretend everything is okay for the children. Laurel's hopeful when Ashley suggests they should go to the pub together and is further confused to discover that he has already sent out the invitations for their vow renewal. Can he forgive her betrayal?

Elsewhere, John tells a sympathetic Andy about Moira's affair and Moira enters, guessing that Andy knows. She tells John that she missed him, but he tells her that he missed the old Moira - the one who he thought would never cheat on him. Telling John how sorry she is, Moira gets a glimmer of hope when he agrees to try and move on but not to expect too much.

Also today, Dan announces that he's leaving to start back at work; Declan is still struggling get over the loss of Mia; and Nicky decides to move on as there's nothing left for him at Emmerdale.

Zak and Sam find Jai arguing with Cain at the garage, warning him to leave his family alone. Soon afterwards, Zak and Sam prevent Adam from going for Cain and even Rodney passes a comment on how vile Cain is. At last Charity finally realises it was Cain all along, while a distressed Georgia and Rishi show them that their beloved cat has been poisoned.

Jai tries to make Priya see that it was Cain who stole her mum's necklace. He shows Priya the photo he received of her in bed, so Priya storms off to quiz Cain. Later, Charity threatens Cain publicly, swearing that she will get him for what he's done. While Jai considers the options, Nikhil suggests that they should postpone the wedding.

Meanwhile, an awkward Dan is forced to tell Sean that he's leaving to go back to work. Sean wants to go with him, but Dan says he's not sorted a flat yet. Ali's sick of seeing Sean and Amelia being let down by Dan.

Elsewhere, the Bartons are concerned as word spreads about Moira's affair, while Katie finds Declan's constant change of moods hard work.

Emmerdale star Charlotte Bellamy has explained why her character Laurel Thomas turns down a future with Marlon Dingle in next week's episodes.

Laurel heads to a hotel room with Marlon next Wednesday as she considers leaving her husband Ashley (John Middleton). She has felt attracted to Marlon since the summer and both have admitted their feelings for each other.

However, Laurel ultimately decides that she cannot abandon her family and returns home to Ashley, who is now well aware of her feelings for Marlon (Mark Charnock).

Bellamy told Soaplife of Laurel's decision: \"Reality hits. The practicalities of leaving Ashley, losing Gaby and having to leave the village hit her like a sledgehammer. She decides she must go home. She's in love with Marlon, but what do you do?\"

She continued: \"[Ashley] knows she's still in love with Marlon and would have gone off with him if it wasn't for the kids. Laurel hasn't slept with Marlon, but it's an emotional betrayal and it eats away at Ashley. He becomes very controlling of Laurel.\"

Bellamy said that Laurel warns Marlon she has made her final choice and wants to stick with her family.

\"Laurel tells him they've said all there is to say,\" she explained. \"She can't look at him anymore because she knows how she feels about him, but she has to do the right thing and stay in her marriage with Ashley.\"

Emmerdale airs Laurel's choice in an hour-long special on Wednesday at 7pm on ITV1.
