Same here, saw him in concert several times and I have enjoyed every scene with him in EastEnders. He is still good looking for his age, as far as I am concerned and his voice has not changed. I have no intention to get over him

Former EastEnders star David Essex has admitted that he felt emotional when he watched his final episode of the soap.

The actor recently completed a four-month stint playing Eddie Moon, who bowed out from Walford earlier this month after discovering the vicious schemes of his son Michael (Steve John Shepherd).

Essex is now busy with theatre commitments as he is touring with his own show All The Fun of the Fair. However, EastEnders bosses have said that they are leaving the door open for his return.

In a new interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Essex confirmed: "They want me back. I must admit I even shed a tear or two when I watched myself leave Albert Square. It was such a strong, emotional way to go, plus I made a lot of friends on the set and I will miss it."

Asked whether viewers could see Eddie back, he replied: "I don't think it's gonna happen any time soon. You wouldn't believe how many times a day people ask me that, though. You'd laugh if you knew.

"I really enjoyed the continued drama element, though, and the characters and storylines were so interesting - not just for me but for the viewers."

Essex added that he thinks EastEnders is currently "in a really good place" and noted that appearing on the show had come with its pressures.

"With EastEnders so many more people see you," he explained. "It also makes it more challenging though, because if you mess up, you mess up in front of 11 million people."

EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.

David Essex has announced plans to release an autobiography next year.

The singer and recent EastEnders actor has signed a deal with publishers Virgin Books to release the title, which will document his four-decade career.

The currently untitled book will be released in March 2012.

Virgin Books editorial director Lorna Russell said in a statement: "David Essex is a legend, and his autobiography has all the stuff of a bestseller, from his gloriously recounted working-class childhood in the East End of London, through the crazy years of Essex mania and beyond. It's completely fascinating, and readers will love it."

Essex added: "With so many adventures I felt it was time to write them down. I hope the reader will enjoy the journey as much as I have."

The star recently said that filming his final scenes on EastEnders was "emotional".

Essex is currently touring his own show All the Fun of the Fair.

Former EastEnders star David Essex has confirmed that he would not rule out a future return to the soap.

The actor and singer had a four-month stint as Eddie Moon last year, but is now concentrating on a number of other projects - including his own musical All the Fun of the Fair.

Speaking on Loose Women today (March 9), Essex revealed that he would consider an EastEnders comeback if he could fit the show in.

"I've not closed the door," he explained. "The thing is, I finish All the Fun of the Fair, then I'm doing a film, which is called Gypsy Boy. And then I'm doing an album.

"The two questions that I get asked at the stage door are, 'When are you going back to EastEnders?' and 'Are you going to do a rock tour?' And I am going to do a rock tour - that's November. They're fixing the dates for it now."

Discussing his musical, he said: "All the Fun of the Fair is a great success, thankfully. It's been great. The great thing is that it's a piece of theatre, it's a marquee name. We've done 550 performances - it's a lot."

Eddie left Albert Square in October, heading off to Spain with his son Craig.
