CORRIE newcomer Sylvia Cropper is being lined up as the new Blanche Hunt.
Since the death of Blanche actress Maggie Jones, far left, in 2009, show bosses have missed her acerbic humour. They have now come up with some cruel one-liners for Sylvia, played by Stephanie Cole, left.
After her debut next month she says of screen son Roy's beloved classic car: "You're expecting me to get into that? It looks like something you have to pedal." She then adds: "Let me out. You drive like Eddie the Eagle." When told Eddie was a skier, not a driver, she hisses: "Exactly!"
A Corrie insider said: "It'll be great to get some of that infamous Blanche dialogue back again."
while i don't think anyone could replace Blanche, Corrie does have that classic battleaxe tradition to keep up!

Whilst at times I have a problem with the scriptwriters , I am sure that Stephanie is well and truly up to it, in her own way![]()
CORRIE'S Hayley Cropper finally gets together with her mother-in-law from hell - in hubby Roy's beloved Morris Minor.
New battleaxe Sylvia Cropper, played by Stephanie Cole, is tipped to fill the shoes of bossy Blanche Hunt after the death of actress Maggie Jones in 2009.
And she soon makes her mark, blasting Hayley's driving after the knicker factory supervisor offers her a lift home.
She forces her daughter-in-law to pull over before storming off - leaving poor Hayley stunned.
The not-so-Minor bust-up will air later this spring.

I do hope Hayley and Roy can stand up for themselves. Hope the Mother- in- law not to over the top. That Hayley and Roy won't know how to cope with her.
Should be interesting to watch.
Wait until her and Norris team up. No-one in the street will stand a chance.![]()

Coronation Street newcomer Stephanie Cole has confirmed that fans can expect a mix of wit and outspoken behaviour from her character Sylvie Cropper.
Sylvie - the estranged mother of established character Roy (David Neilson) - makes her debut on the soap in Monday's double bill as she turns up to visit her son.
Over the past few weeks, press reports have tipped the new arrival to cause a stir in Weatherfield with some ill-tempered antics. Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Roy's wife Hayley, has also described Sylvie as "quite fierce".
Speaking to TV Choice about her character, Cole commented: "She is an extremely proud woman. She's also very acerbic and can be quite breathtakingly rude - but still gloriously witty at the same time."
Discussing Sylvie's relationship with her son, she continued: "She hasn't had much contact with Roy since he left home at 16, perhaps because she found him a bit of an embarrassment.
"Nowadays we'd recognise that Roy might have Asperger's Syndrome, but back then she thought his oddness was some sort of reflection on her child-rearing skills. I think she might have secretly been pleased to have him off her hands."
Cole, best known for her roles in Doc Martin and Tenko, also confessed that she shares some similarities with Sylvie.
"I do believe in the art of complaining, which is something I'm sure Sylvie is very good at. We must complain if restaurant service is poor, or if the person at the shop is a miserable git!" she joked. "But I'd never be as rude as Sylvie - I hope not!"
Cole's casting in Coronation Street was announced in December.
