EastEnders newcomer Elliott Jordan arrives in Walford next week as jack-the-lad Callum Monks. Son of Vinnie Monks (Bobby Davro), Callum can turn his hand to almost anything and proves himself to be quite the ladies' man as he immediately eyes up Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), much to Bradley's (Charlie Clements) annoyance. Here, Elliott chats to us about the inspiration for his character, his lust for Stacey Slater and working with comedian Bobby Davro.

What was it like walking onto the Square for the first time?
"It was completely surreal and more than that it was quite magical. It was bigger than I expected because they are literally roads going off everywhere. One minute you are at the tube station and the next you are outside the police station. It literally is like a real mini village. I did feel an honour, as over the years so many great iconic characters have been and gone but the Square remains the same."

Where were you when you found out you landed the part?
"At work. I had office job and it was 6pm on a Monday evening when I found out. I left work that day and obviously that was my last day there. The people I worked with were over the moon for me."

How did the producers pitch the character to you? How would you describe him?
"Well, he's a very laid back and easy going character. He doesn't think too far ahead. He's a bit of a Casanova, definitely a jack the lad. He's very confident and streetwise and he reads people and situations very well, which allows him to get what he wants."

Where do you draw the inspiration for the character from?
"One of the writers said when I first got the job that Callum reminded him of Vincent Chase in Entourage. He is really easy going and naturally seems to get what he wants."

Is he anything like his father, Vinnie?
"I think Callum is who his father would have wanted to be. He has more common sense and is generally more lucky in life."

How does he end up on the Square? Is his Vinnie expecting him?
"Vinnie isn't expecting him at all. He's been sharing a flat with three girls but is chucked out when they realise that he's been sleeping with them all!"

Do we know anything about his mother?
"Yeah, I know his mum has had a bit of a colourful past but that's all I know."

He has a bit of a thing for Stacey when he turns up, doesn't he?
"Oh yeah! From the moment he first sees her, he can't really think about anything else. And Callum generally gets what he wants."

And what about Danielle - doesn't he have a thing for her pretty quickly, too?
"Yeah, he thinks that she is gorgeous but she is not as fiery and stubborn as Stacey. She's there on a plate for him, whereas Stacey is a challenge."

Do you hope your character will assume Sean Slater's 'bad boy' role when Robbie K departs at the end of the year?
"I don't think that Callum has had the dark past like Sean has, but he is streetwise and will always stand up for himself if he needs to. Callum doesn't arrive on the Square with a chip on his shoulder, either."

What's been your funniest moment on set since you began?
"Basically anything with Bobby. It's like I have my own private 'Audience with Bobby Davro' show."

Have you been in touch with Lily Allen since appearing in her 'Smile' video?
"No, unfortunately we never kept in touch but I am really pleased she has done so well."

callum monk interview from What's on tv mag

New boy Callum's about to make a monkey of Bradley
    Tuesday 12th August

EastEnders - and Bradley in particular - is about to get a wake-up call with the arrival of new jack-the-lad Callum Monks, played by Elliott Jordan.

Sadly for Bradley, the handsome new addition to the cast makes a beeline for Stacey Slater, and she seems to protest a little too much at the attention from the new boy.

Elliott, 25, said: "At first he’s the one staring at Stacey, but then he catches her looking right back. He feels certain she’s keen on him."

And it doesn't seem to deter him when he meets Bradley and takes a liking to Stacey's other half.

"He really likes Bradley and you’d think that would make him back down but he doesn’t. He’s very selfish," said Elliott.

Would Stacey be that stupid having just got back with Bradley? Anything's possible in Albert Square! Watch for Callum's arrival in EastEnders next week...
