I can see why she wouldn't want to go back. If her step-father had anything to do with her kidnap then maybe she feels that her mother could have too. I'm not saying that the mother did have a hand in it though.

It sounds like simply she is happy, and feels safe where she is....and has the love and stability she never had, sadly, with her mum and step dad...

They have now arrested Shannon's mother for perverting the course of justice and the uncle who abducted her tried to commit suicide but is now back in prison. I dread to think what could have gone on in that house.
I had a funny feeling when I learned that Shannon's step-father is only 22, no disrespect to 22-year old men, but most fellas at that age do not want to play daddy to 7 kids, they are mostly far too immature for that.

There's always been rumours that it was 'staged' in order to make money from the press etc.... very sick if even remotely true. No wonder Shannon doesn't want to return to her family....I think the only good to come out of this is she is now in a safe, and hopefully happier environment.

It is totally unbelievable what some people will do for a bit of cash and some fame... this is dispicable.. I hope they all get the full punishment they deserve and that all the children are looked after properly from now on

I for one was critising the police in their involvement in handling Shannon's abduction and the lack of publicity, but may be they knew that the family were involved all along.

I can't begin to try and understand why someone would staged their child abduction just for money. You just don't do that. I hate to see kids taking away from their parents and put into care but in this situation Shannon and her siblings are better off as far away as possible from her Mum and beasty Step-father.

Kath.. from what is been publicised... they did it cause they thought they would get big cash fund like the mcCanns.. One of the clauses in the Madeline fund states that it can be used for financial support to the family, hence the paying of the mortgage. Shannon's family thought they would get the same thing and use the cash for themselves.

It is very sick but it happens.. how many people claimed to have lost loved ones after 911 attack just to get compensation. Using a child to do this is by far the most henious thing any parent could do.. I hate seen a child been seperated from their parents but in this case, i believe social services to be right.. A male figure in the house who has Child porn fetish and a mother who is willing to use her own child to make money from the public.

What happens next time, when a child is genuinely abducted? Noboby will believe it, even the Police will have their doubts and who could blame them?

The Police rely on local communities helping from the outset with searches etc. Will people now be so willing to help?

The McCanns and the Matthews have put a lot of children in potential danger in my opinion with their lies and their greed.

Totally agree.. but I still stand by that the parents (or last people to see the child) should instantly be made accountable until proven not the case. I mean look at the kids so far: Madeline, nobody knows what has happen to her, Mari Luz (god rest her little soul) abducted by a neighbour and Shannon set up by the immediate family.
