My dad (now deceased) never had a holiday or weekend off, was self-employed and got up at 5 am, came home around 11 pm that day for many years. I will stay at home with a bad flu (I am not self employed) but would agree that I tend to put work before family.

i would never say he put work before family he is a taxi driver gets up at 5 out by 7 and finishes by 5 mon - thurs except sat he starts 9 and does till midnight but he was always there when needed and we never missed out on anything because he was there he took holidays off to spend more time with us he just worked a lot to make sure we had enough money .....not to survive on to be comfortable on

And as a grown up now I realise how hard it must have been for him to manage to spend as much time with us as he did and give us the life and security we had
