I looked into being a doctor and you have to get really good grades. A lot of the med schools/unis look to the GCSE science and a lot want at an A/A*, preferably double award. As for A levels you will need to do biology and chemistry to A2 plus another subject, although that doesn't have to be specific or relevent to medicine.
For med school you usually need at least 390 UCAS points. Not sure if you're familiar with UCAS points but the basics of it are, each grade is given a points score, AS points are half of the full A2 points. At A2, A's are worth 120, B's 100, C's 80, D's 60 and E's 40. So at AS an A is worth 60, B 50 etc. So to get 390 points you will need AAA at A2 plus an AS. Some places accept AAB plus a really good AS. Most places don't accept key skills either. It is really hard to get into and I would presume vetrinary surgery is the same.
