Exclamation Casualty Spoilers 10th January 2026

Casualty fans rejoice! The BBC soap is returning to our screens after an extended break - and you don't have long to wait.

The last season ended on an almighty cliffhanger with Ngozi Okoye seemingly left for dead when she suffered a devastating head injury following a relapse in her sobriety journey.

With her life left in the balance and her plans to leave Holby for a new life in Nigeria with her son Obi, fans will soon have the answers they crave after soap bosses confirmed the show's return.

In a post on Instagram featuring several teaser snaps, they wrote: "#Casualty returns. 10th January 2026 on BBC One and @bbciplayer."

Fans were quick to air their excitement in the comment section, with one user writing: "Can?t wait, really need my Saturday night fix back."

Another added: "About time too, we have waited long enough for Casualty to come back."

However, many pointed out that this return date means we won't be getting the annual Casualty Christmas special.

"I've been waiting for Strictly to finish so Casualty would resume! Gutted there won't be an Xmas special 😢," a third penned.

Another commented: "Christmas special?? But still so excited for it to return!!!"

It comes after it was announced that the soap would be changing location from Bristol to Wales, having been filmed at Cardiff's Roath Lock Studios since 2011.

The long-term future of the soap has been confirmed, with BBC Studios set to produce the next three seasons.

Director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt said: "Casualty is a hugely important, much loved BBC drama and this tender has ensured it will continue to flourish.

"It was an extremely competitive process and we would like to thank the shortlisted producers for their high quality and comprehensive proposals. We look forward to working with BBC Studios as we build on the show?s long-running success."

"Casualty will be supercharging the portrayal of Wales to the UK and beyond and BBC Cymru Wales are delighted," added BBC Cymru Wales' Head of Commissioning Nick Andrews.

"Casualty always breaks new ground, and it has done so again. The sheer scale of the portrayal of Wales ? in character and place is a game changer. BBC Studios fired our imaginations, and we look forward to where they take the world of Casualty next."

Casualty returns to BBC One on 10 January, 2026.

This week, Casualty finally returns from its annual break for the first episode of the show since September. There are two new resident doctors who arrive to shake things up in the department, causing big problems for both Dylan and Stevie. Plus, Nicole faces questions and Faith is struggling.

Here is our round-up of all the biggest moments coming up in the ED, in the first episode of the latest boxset, ?Learning Curve?:

    1. Matty makes a good impression

Matty and Kim arrive at the ED for their first shift on the day that is darkly named Black Wednesday. Keen to get started as soon as possible, Matty sets up a ?firsts? list in the staff room to track his progress.

While Dylan is forced to become Matty?s mentor, things don?t go well and Flynn steps in as his adviser for the day. Matty gets off to a flying start, making it clear that he intends to apply for the Clinical Fellowship soon, and impressing Flynn by treating a patient successfully.

    2. Kim gets her wires crossed

Kim?s first day starts with an embarrassing mistake, when she assumes that her mentor Dr Nash is a man and is horrified when she then meets Stevie. As her shift gets underway, Kim impresses Stevie by correctly explaining the treatment for a patient.

But Stevie is annoyed when Kim later presses the emergency button for what is revealed to be a false alarm. Can Kim win round her frustrated mentor?

    3. Dylan is spooked

Dylan insists that he doesn?t want to act as a mentor to either of the two new doctors. He is later witness to a chat between Stevie and Flynn, who tease each other about which of their mentees will win the Clinical Fellowship.

However, Dylan is blindsided when he realises that Matty has the same surname as someone he went to university with. Is there a hidden connection between Dylan and Matty?

    4. Nicole is reminded of Ngozi

During a conversation with newbie Kim, Nicole reminisces about her ex-partner Ngozi and suggests that she isn?t here anymore.

Later, a situation with a patient she is treating makes Nicole think of Ngozi and she gets emotional. What happened to Ngozi at the end of the last boxset, and will that devastating cliffhanger be resolved?

    5. Faith reveals a secret

At the end of the last boxset, Iain and Faith?s marriage looked all but over. The death of Iain?s mum, who was an alcoholic, made Iain think that he didn?t love Faith and was only with her to fix her ? as an addict herself.

It appears that the situation sadly hasn?t changed, as Faith tells pal Stevie that Iain has now moved out. Is there any way back for the couple?
