Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw has shared details of three major upcoming storylines.

The last year has seen some big stories in the soap, with the limo crash, April's time on the streets and Belle and Tom's domestic abuse storyline being singled out for nominations at the upcoming British Soap Awards.

Shaw has promised more "exciting and gripping" drama to come, with Sarah Sugden's baby storyline being a big focus.

Viewers have already seen Sarah express her desire to have a baby and discuss the option of IVF with Vanessa. But Shaw explained that this will be a long running story.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media, Shaw said: "That?s going to be a big story for us over the next 12 months or so. There?s lots of twists and turns and it?s going to cause some big ruptures in the whole family."

Bear Wolf will also be in the spotlight, with Shaw explaining: "The character of Bear, we?ve got a big storyline coming up for him.

"He?s going to go off screen for a little while, he?s going to go missing. And when he comes back, what you?ll see is a very different Bear in a really different situation.

"We?re all going to be watching and going ?what the hell has happened here?? That?s going to be really exciting."

Finally, Aaron Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd will have a big year. Shaw said: "We?ve got big stuff with Aaron and Mackenzie coming up towards the end of summer and into autumn.

"We?ve got a big week of episodes planned there that?s going to be life changing for those two. We?ve still got that flashforward from the New Year, we?ve not forgotten about it, to pay off. That might happen then, we shall see?"

Shaw added: "We?re actually in the process of building a new set for that week. I?ve just read the first drafts of the scripts, and I have to say, they are some of the most exciting and gripping episodes I?ve read in a long time."

Emmerdale star Lisa Riley has dropped some tasty spoilers for the soap's Christmas episodes, with the actor teasing that viewers will get to view a storyline that has "never been done before".

Riley's Mandy Dingle has been involved in several major storylines over the years, with a recent arc seeing her husband Paddy struggle to repair the fractured bond that he shared with his father, Bear Wolf.

After much confrontation, Bear left the Dales earlier this year as he sought a new life elsewhere, though it was soon revealed that it hadn't gone to plan after he was seen wandering around the area.

Riley, who first played Mandy in 1995, teased earlier this month that Bear's return would lead to an unprecedented storyline on the soap, and she has now expanded on these comments in an interview held at the 2025 Inside Soap Awards.

"Vicky Thomas, who directed [the] big ice [limousine] crash, is directing [the] Christmas Day [episode], so that speaks for itself," she told The Sun, before detailing the storyline involving Bear and Paddy.

"It?s going to straggle over the whole of Christmas and into the New Year - it?s a storyline that?s never been done before," she said. "When we got the script - we were told months ago - it?s something really exciting.

"That?s [what's] so good about soaps, we?ve planned loads of things to knock you off kilter. We tackled Paddy?s [mental health] before and that probed people to liken it to what?s happened to Bear.

"Is that the truth? It might be a complete curveball. That?s why we?re lucky with our writers - they?re dropping stuff on purpose to knock you off kilter," teased the actor, who returned to the ITV soap in 2018 after a 17-year absence.

Bear's storyline was announced back in May, with producer Laura Shaw teasing: "The character of Bear, we've got a big storyline coming up for him. He's going to go off screen for a little while, he's going to go missing.

"And when he comes back, what you'll see is a very different Bear in a really different situation. We're all going to be watching and going, 'What the hell has happened here?' That's going to be really exciting."

Emmerdale announces three special episodes - with huge twists ahead for Robert, April

    https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/emm...rt-april-bear/

Emmerdale will delve deeper into the harrowing storylines of three characters in a series of special episodes this autumn. The standalone episodes will respectively focus on Robert Sugden, April Windsor and Bear Wolf, as they each deal with heartbreaking circumstances.

In recent months, April has been caught up in the world of drug dealing after trying to help her boyfriend Dylan Penders. In order to clear Dylan's debt, villain Ray Walters has been coercing April into completing jobs for him.

The teenager's predicament has caused tension within her family, which escalated when her brother Leo was hospitalised after taking an ecstasy pill that she accidentally dropped. Meanwhile, this week will see April forced into another sickening situation when she is trapped in a hotel room with an associate of Ray's.

The upcoming special episode will pick up with April still at the mercy of the dangerous criminals. Emmerdale will explore the damaged relationship between April and her worried father Marlon, as he fights to save his child and keep his family together.

Elsewhere, the second special episode will give viewers an insight into Robert's recent incarceration, which saw him serving six years after killing rapist Lee Posner, before he was released from prison earlier this year.

Ever since Robert's return, he has been fairly quiet about his time inside, though it was revealed that he was suffering from nightmares and PTSD. However, last month saw the shocking arrival of Robert's secret husband Kev, proving there's more to his prison life than he's willing to let on.

The third special episode will focus on Bear, who was last seen on screen in July when he left the village after an argument with his son Paddy. Bear said he was visiting a friend in Ireland but he was later seen roaming the countryside, while apparently living in his car.

Since then, viewers have been worried about Bear's whereabouts, as the character is gearing up for a huge new storyline.

The upcoming special will reveal what happened during the past one hundred days that Bear has been missing from our screens. Viewers will learn of the sad but common situation that the older generation often become trapped in.
