EastEnders' Nigel Bates crashes his beloved motor on the streets of Walford next week, before handing himself in to the police! Will Nigel ? who is living with young onset dementia ? serve time behind bars for the chaos he's caused?

Following an upsetting argument with Julie, Nigel walks away from his wife and heads out for a sneaky car ride.

Even though Julie has previously warned him that he's not permitted to drive, Nigel puts his foot on the pedal and sets off down the road. And before long, Nigel suffers a meltdown that leads to disaster?

"Nigel sees that Julie is calling him and becomes overwhelmed," says our EastEnders insider. "He struggles to concentrate and, before he knows it, Nigel has no power over the car whatsoever.

"EastEnders bosses are keeping tight-lipped about how catastrophic the crash turns out to be but, given how cut up Nigel is over it afterwards, it's a serious state of affairs. After everything that Nigel has already been through recently, it's tragic to see him in this situation?"

As the week begins, Nigel prepares to sell his car but accidentally ends up damaging it before the handover. As a result, Lauren Branning reduces the price that the vehicle is going for and finalises the deal on the basis that he needs cash for his holiday to India with Julie.

Nigel confides in Yolande Trueman that he wishes he could enjoy one last drive in his beloved motor before it's gone forever. Then, he lays eyes on his missing car keys, which leads to his ill-fated idea to take the car out for a final spin.

After disaster strikes, Nigel becomes confused with the events leading up to the accident, so he turns to Julie for answers. Intent on protecting her husband, Julie claims that she was behind the wheel at the time, but Nigel isn't convinced?

"Nigel can't allow himself to believe Julie," explains our source. "Knowing that something isn't right, Nigel sets out on a mission, but Julie quickly leaps into action and takes Nigel back to the safety of their home.

There, Julie does all she can to persuade Nigel that she was driving and therefore responsible for the crash, but she fails to convince him. Julie is desperate to keep Nigel out of trouble, but it becomes impossible for her to get a handle on the situation."

Feeling guilty, Nigel makes the fateful decision to turn himself in to Jack, who later accompanies him to the police station for further investigation.

With Nigel certain that he is to blame, will the police find evidence to prove that he's telling the truth? Or will Julie fight to keep her partner out of prison?

EastEnders' Zoe Slater resorts to thieving from her own mum next week, as she becomes ever more determined to find her long-lost son. After Kat Slater promises to help Zoe track down the surviving twin that she gave up for adoption nearly 20 years ago, the landlady is furious to find that her eldest has gone behind her back and swiped money from the pub till.

Can Kat forgive her daughter for her act of desperation ? or will Zoe's selfish act jeopardise the help that Kat kindly offered?

"Kat is understandably livid," explains our insider. "On the same day that she gives Zoe her word that she'll help find her son, she goes and breaks her trust by nicking cash from The Vic.

"It's a kick in the teeth for Kat and Alfie ? but Zoe must be full of despair if she's prepared to stoop that low and do her own flesh and blood dirty."

Before Kat discovers her daughter's betrayal, Zoe makes it clear that she's intent on hiring a private investigator to track her son down. Kat points out that Sharon ? who's agreed to pay for the sleuth following Zoe's claims that the boy was fathered by Sharon's ex-husband Dennis Rickman ? is out of town.

Refusing to be deterred, Zoe heads off to meet a PI. Meanwhile, Kat has realised that Zoe's had her fingers in the till ? so she follows Zoe to her clandestine meeting for a showdown and gets more than she bargained for when her daughter lies to the investigator.

Back on the Square, Kat tells Alfie that Zoe will have to leave if she can't set a good example ? but Zoe overhears this. The pair struggle to put their differences to one side, but a distraction presents itself after a stray kitten becomes trapped inside The Vic!

Thankfully, Zoe rescues the cute moggy before finally sorting things out with her mum. However, the truce between Zoe and Kat doesn't last for long, as Zoe finally responds to Kat's nagging with a shocking outburst.

"Zoe drops a bombshell!" teases our insider. "It comes after Kat pushes for Zoe to be honest with her. You'll have to tune in to see what Zoe reveals to her mum ? and it's a moment that you won't want to miss?"

What does Zoe tell Kat? And will she edge any closer to finding her lost child?

Nigel arranges to sell his car to pay for the trip to India, but decides that he wants one last drive in it before giving it up for good. He spots the missing car keys and sneaks off for a drive following a row with Julie.

Later, Nigel becomes overwhelmed behind the wheel as he receives a call from Julie. There's a terrible outcome when the vehicle crashes?

Meanwhile, Harry calls Kojo following the latest concern over his whereabouts. When he gets on the phone, Harry encourages Kojo to run away.

Elsewhere, Oscar storms off following tension with Jasmine. Jasmine and Gina decide to go for a drink somewhere else, but their night takes a worrying turn.

Also today, Lexi continues to behave coldly towards Johnny, while Kat and Alfie struggle with the tensions as Zoe and Jean's animosity rumbles on.

Okie is furious over Harry's recent behaviour. He orders him to call Kojo and instruct him to return to the handlers. Harry refuses to comply, so Okie issues a threat.

Meanwhile, Nigel reels from his actions with the car?

Elsewhere, Kat discovers that Zoe has stolen money from the till.

Also today, Johnny's ex-client Tim turns up for a meeting with him. Callum also arrives and is surprised that Tim isn't quite what he expected.

Later, as Nigel arrives home, Julie continues with her ruse. Nigel isn't convinced and hands himself in to Jack.

Meanwhile, Kat follows Zoe as her daughter secretly meets with a private investigator. Although still annoyed over the stolen money, Kat tries to support Zoe but gets suspicious when Zoe lies to the investigator. Later, Zoe overhears when Kat declares that Zoe will have to leave if she doesn't start setting a good example.

Elsewhere, Harry is horrified when Kojo returns to the flat.

Also today, Johnny and Tim agree to be business partners ? despite Callum's warnings over Tim's possible motives.

Elsewhere, Johnny tries to win over Lexi with gifts, but Billy warns Callum that it's not appropriate. Callum feels conflicted when Johnny offers to take Lexi to a concert, much to her delight.
