Emmerdale's Cain Dingle hits the self-destruct button next week after his search for John Sugden is unsuccessful. Cain has recently been on a trip to France in the hope of finding John and avenging the death of his son Nate Robinson, but he fails to locate the missing killer.
When Moira Dingle struggles with Cain's absence, she forces him back home with a severe voicemail ? but once he returns, he's a very different Cain from the man who left?
"Cain finally comes back from his wild goose chase in France, but he's an absolute mess," our Emmerdale source warns. "He didn't find John, so he feels as though he's failed his son Nate and hasn't got justice for him.
"This feeling of fatherly shame fuels his self-destructive grief, and Cain turns to booze for comfort."
Moira tries to quiz her husband on what happened with John, but Cain evasively bats away her line of questioning. Pushing past his coldness, Moira reminds him that the anniversary of his dad's death is approaching and asserts that he still has responsibilities to attend to with his family ? but Cain pays no attention.
"Even though Cain still has a family who need him, he can only focus on the son that he lost," shares our insider. "After John's cruel words in the woods, Cain fears that Nate died hating him, and he won't rest until he makes it up to him ? even though Nate would surely want him to find peace."
As Cain's siblings Sam and Belle visit Zak's grave together, they wonder if Cain will show up to pay his respects. The Dingle siblings share fond memories of their dad and comfort each other in their grief ? but ultimately, they conclude that they need to pull together in concern for Cain and help their brother?
"The Dingles are the village's strongest family, and having each other's backs is what they do best," our source says. "It's usually Cain holding the family together as the oldest brother, but in this case, he seriously needs help from the rest of the clan.
"His vendetta to avenge Nate won't help him in the way that he thinks ? he needs to move forward with his surviving loved ones."
While drinking alone in the garage, Cain is visited by his friend Liam Cavanagh, who attempts to discuss Cain's troubles with him ? but the miserable mechanic refuses help and orders Liam to leave.
When his son Kyle excitedly shows off his man of the match trophy, will drunken Cain show up for his family ? or will his siblings be forced to intervene and pull him out of the terrible place he's in?

Emmerdale's April Windsor is thrown into a sickening situation next week, when she finds herself stuck in a hotel bedroom with Tim, a twisted associate of Ray's. Is there any way out for the vulnerable teenager?
Having given April a new job to complete, Ray drives the 16-year-old to a hotel and hands her hard drugs to deliver to his 'valuable client' known as Tim. However, it soon becomes clear that Ray wants April to do more than just pass on the drugs and head back to the village, as he instructs her to have a drink with Tim while she's there. And once April arrives, it becomes clear just how sinister Tim's intentions are?
"Tim accepts the drugs then offers April vodka," our Emmerdale source explains. "The exchange will make your skin crawl. From the beginning, it's obvious that April is nervous to be there, then Tim comes out with his stomach-turning offer.
"And that's not even the worst of it, as April ends up being trapped in a bedroom with him not long afterwards. It's yet to be seen what happens next, but that moment alone is horrifying to watch. You'll want to run in and bust April out of there."
The drama begins when Ray pressures April to take a job in Liverpool on the basis that he'll sell her debt otherwise, which leaves her mortified over the potential implications.
Desperate to pay her and Dylan's dues, April resorts to stealing jewellery from Rhona Goskirk ? however, her stepmum walks in just as she goes ahead with the act.
"Rhona and April's relationship has already hit rock bottom," our insider continues. "After the incident with Leo and the drugs, Rhona was absolutely beside herself with anger.
"So, Rhona catching April trying to nick her jewellery will surely deepen the wounds between them. It's awful for both of them, but poor Marlon too?"
Out of options, April informs Ray that she'll go ahead with the job in Liverpool after all. In turn, Ray explains that someone else has been given the job now, but it doesn't take long for him to hand April another task, which leads her into Tim's clutches at the hotel.
With April at Tim's mercy, can the teenager break free and find safety? Or has Ray left her with no way to escape?

Emmerdale star Olivia Bromley has revealed a turning point ahead for Dawn Fletcher and Joe Tate's controversial relationship. The couple, who first got together when Dawn cheated on her husband Billy, will be brought closer next week during an emotional heart-to-heart over the past.
In upcoming scenes, Dawn is totally open with Joe for the first time, as she shares harrowing details of what her life was like before she moved to the village in 2018. This includes how she was coerced into sex work and drug addiction.
Olivia has now spoken about the emotional moment in an exclusive interview with Soap Scoop, the weekly podcast from Inside Soap magazine which contains cast chats every Tuesday.
After fierce fan debates over whether Dawn and Joe are really suited, Olivia suggested that next week's episodes will explore the potential for a much stronger bond between them.
"Joe Tate is the epitome of what Dawn would see as a different class to her," Olivia explained. "He's very put together. He's not super emotional in lots of ways. With Dawn, shame over her past has really been a big problem, so for her to open up to him is a massive deal.
"As soon as she starts to feel judged by him ? and that she's not worthy of him and that he sees her as her past in a difficult way ? it could really cause a rift between them.
"But what's actually really nice is that Joe welcomes her to open up properly. I think it's the first time you actually go: 'I get why these two characters might be together'.
"It's actually really a sweet bond between them. So I think it could bring them closer."
Olivia also discussed the chances of Dawn reuniting with Billy in the future. The pair haven't shared much screen time together recently, but could they ever find their way back to each other?
"I love working with Jay [Kontzle, who plays Billy] obviously," Olivia explained. "It's funny when you've worked with someone for ages. It's very weird because you're just used to your partner. They are your screen husband. And then I'm like: 'Got a new one!' It's funny.
"I think with Dawn and Billy, it got really toxic. I don't know if there's any coming back from what she's done to him. The way that she's hurt him is really bad. So I don't know whether he would have her back, but who knows?"
