There's a shock new arrival in the Emmerdale village next week, as Robert Sugden comes face-to-face with a secret acquaintance from prison. But who is newcomer Kev ? and what does he want from Robert?

Kev (played by Chris Coghill) drops by to see Robert, but when they're caught holding hands by Victoria Sugden, Robert has a lot of explaining to do. Were Robert and Kev a couple in the nick? Or is there another reason Robert's looking so shifty?

"Kev's arrival sends Robert reeling," our Emmerdale insider explains. "He's desperate not to be seen with Kev and sneaks him inside, out of view. Later they're looking pretty cosy, leaving Victoria to wonder if this is Robert's prison boyfriend?"

Since Robert's return to the village after six years inside on a murder charge, he's experienced nightmares and PTSD from his prison hell. Despite revealing he was targeted and bullied inside, he's been unwilling to talk about his time banged up, but his cagey attitude might be about to change.

After Robert receives a mysterious text, he's even more stunned to see Kev on his doorstep. Checking no one's watching, Robert ushers him into Keeper's Cottage and it soon becomes clear Kev is a man he met in prison.

"Robert wants to leave prison in the past," our source continues. "Rob's hinted at struggling to survive in there, and Kev's arrival is about to unearth everything he's tried to keep secret from his loved ones?"

When Victoria comes home unexpectedly, she's perplexed to see Robert and this complete stranger holding hands, especially considering how eager her big brother is to rekindle his relationship with Aaron Dingle.

Although Robert had cut all ties with his family, he returned hoping Aaron would fall back into his arms ? so what does Kev mean for Robert's romantic masterplan?

When Robert finally manages to get rid of Kev from the cottage, Victoria gives her brother a good grilling, making Robert uncomfortable as he's forced to explain himself.

"Robert doesn't look overjoyed to be reunited with Kev," hints our spy. "We don't know what he faced inside or what he had to do to get by. But if he and Kev were lovers, this might put a spanner in the works for any hope Robert has of reuniting with Aaron."

Later in the week, Robert's left in an awkward situation all of his own making. Has Robert given Kev the wrong impression that they have a future together when his heart lies elsewhere? Or will Robert's efforts to keep Kev secret backfire if Aaron learns this bombshell from someone else?

But begging Ray to release April gets Dylan nowhere, as the manipulative gangster boss piles on the emotional blackmail to keep the vulnerable lad towing the line.

April is spinning numerous plates as she tries to keep her side hustle a secret from her parents. While babysitting little brother Leo, she gets a call from Ray to do a last-minute job.

Realising she has no choice but to carry out the illegal errand, April dashes off and aims to be back before her dad and Rhona. But she doesn't realise some pills have dropped out of her bag?

Rhona reels to find her son unconscious, with April nowhere to be seen. Confused and concerned, Rhona and Marlon wonder what on earth has been going on in their absence.

April sneaks home, but her plan to creep back in before anyone notices she's gone is scuppered as she sees her comatose sibling being loaded into an ambulance.

Feeling the pressure, mortified April covers her tracks by lying to her parents about where the drugs came from to put them off the scent.

She soon struggles with her deceit, though, and considers confessing all. But with the authorities asking questions, she panics at the sight of police officers arriving at the hospital, and flees?

Offloading to Dylan, April admits she wants to tell the truth, even if that means exposing the clandestine dealing. But she doesn't realise Ray has overheard, and is determined to do whatever it takes to stop his empire being compromised.

Is April in deeper danger as Ray plots to silence her? And will Leo survive his brush with death?

There is a mystery man called Kev in the Emmerdale village, asking for directions.

Robert is soon stunned to answer a knock at the door to Kev, who turns out to be a familiar face. Checking no-one on the street is watching, Robert allows Kev in and it's clear that he's an acquaintance from prison.

Victoria walks in and is confused to find Robert holding hands with a man who isn't Aaron. After finally getting rid of him, Robert knows he's in for a grilling from his sister.

Meanwhile, Vinny is terrified about testifying in court.

Elsewhere, when Dylan catches April selling drugs outside university halls, he's shocked.

At the hospital, with police and social services now involved, Rhona suspects April immediately. Just as April considers confessing, she spots police officers and flees in panic.

Meanwhile, Robert has a choice to make.

Elsewhere, much to Mike's chagrin, Vinny begins to stand up to him in court. Vinny starts to panic when he sees Gabby enter the public gallery and fix him with a challenging stare, just as he's about to talk about first encountering Mike on a forum for people questioning their sexuality. Will Vinny be able to proceed?

Emmerdale newcomer Chris Coghill, who soap fans will remember as Eastenders villain Tony King, is set to debut in the village next week.

Ahead of his arrival, some juicy details about his character have been unveiled and, according to The Sun, Coghill's character Kev is actually the prison husband of Robert Sugden.

Robert returned to the village in May after serving six years in prison following the death of Lee Posner. His return saw him interrupt the wedding of ex-husband Aaron Dingle and his half-brother, John Sugden.

Since being back in the Dales, Robert hasn't said much about his time in prison but has been shown to be suffering from nightmares and PTSD.

While the soap is yet to confirm the news about Kev being Robert's husband, spoilers for next week's episodes have already revealed that Kev will unexpectedly turn up on Robert's doorstop.

Robert will bring Kev into Keeper's Cottage where it becomes clear that the pair met in prison.

However, when Victoria comes home she is surprised to see Robert and Kev, who she's never met before, holding hands.

Of course Kev's arrival probably won't sit well with RobRon fans, who were hoping for a romantic reunion between Robert and Aaron.

Emmerdale's Vinny Dingle faces up to abusive Mike in court next week ? hoping to finally see justice served after his nasty attack. But will he be able to tell the truth when Gabby unexpectedly shows up?

After deciding to testify against Mike, Vinny secretly fears that his honesty could break Gabby's heart ? so when he learns that the defence plan to call Gabby as a witness, he pulls out and lies about what the court case involves. Vinny's relief doesn't last though, as Mike arrives in the village and demands that Vinny give him Gabby's cash.

Vinny's been through a massive ordeal, and any confrontation with Mike is horrendous for him," says Bradley Johnson, who plays the village favourite. "It brings back so many horrible feelings. He's scared that any minute Mike could tell Gabby everything, and his life could just be over."

Striking a deal, Vinny promises that if Mike keeps Gabby out of things, he'll testify on his behalf and destroy the prosecution case ? but little does Mike know that Vinny secretly plans to tell the truth in court.

"Deep down, Vinny has the courage to get Mike sent down," reasons Bradley. "Part of him wants to tell the truth, to get him for all the things he's done; but then on the other side, if Gabby finds out, will she leave him? Will Thomas's adoption be off? He's really torn."

When Gabby becomes suspicious that Vinny isn't being entirely honest about the court case, Laurel is quick to remind her that she has a big secret of her own ? after recently confessing that she cheated on Vinny.

Unsatisfied, Gabby decides to crash the courtroom ? just as Vinny is about to open up over meeting Mike on the LGBTQ+ forum. With Gabby present, will panicked Vinny proceed with his honest account?

"If Gabby hears the full story, Vinny thinks that would be it," muses Bradley. "Vinny knows what Gabby's been through in the past, and I don't think Gabby could take one more person doing that to her. It would break her."

With his tirade against Mike halted by Gabby's shock arrival, will Vinny find the courage to continue ? and risk everything for justice?
