The end of his romance with Steph Miligan catapults Ross Barton into the arms of another woman on Emmerdale next week ? when he ends up in bed with Manpreet Sharma.

Ross has been a huge support to Steph as she's battled her demons after discovering that grandfather Anthony was her biological dad.

However, as Steph makes the tough decision to focus on her recovery ? and dumps Ross in the process ? he finds himself craving a shoulder to cry on?

"Ross is gutted when Steph bins him off," our Emmerdale insider explains.

"He genuinely cares and was committed to helping her through this awful crisis. However, his bruised ego longs for some TLC once she gives him the heave-ho, and it seems Manpreet is just what the doctor ordered!"

With a failed relationship behind her, and the ill-advised pass she made at married Billy Fletcher, village catch Manpreet is long overdue a bit of a romance.

So, when fate sees to it that Ross is suddenly single and, ahem, immediately ready to mingle, smitten Manpreet wastes no time in making an appointment with the local bit-of-ruff. However, will Ross' bedside manner live up to expectations?

"Ross ought to be thrilled to bag himself such a great catch as Manpreet," our source continues.

"However, it's clear that he's still pining after Steph when he emerges from Manpreet's the following morning, and shrugs her off when Caleb spots him doing the walk of shame.

"Ross obviously doesn't want news of his dalliance with Manpreet making it back to Steph via her dad."

Will Ross come to regret seducing Manpreet if Steph finds out and wants nothing more to do with him? And are they really over for good?

Meanwhile, will Manpreet realise that she deserves far better than a meaningless one-night-stand with the local ladies' man?

Emmerdale star Michael Parr has predicted another big return following Robert Sugden's comeback.

The character recently made a dramatic re-entrance to the soap as he crashed ex Aaron Dingle's wedding to Robert's brother John ? though ended up back in prison for breaking his licence.

While this isn't the last we've seen of the character, it appears that his storyline has the potential to spark another return ? namely his biological son, Seb.

Seb was previously taken away to live with a relative, with Ross (played by Michael) revealing upon his own return to the village last year that his partner (and Seb's mum) Rebecca had died.

However, with Robert now back in the frame, Ross could feasibly get him to get custody of Seb, Michael telling The Mirror: "That was my first question.

"I thought surely either we are gonna be fighting over this kid or we will try to get him back. I don't know which I would rather. I mean I tried to shoot him, he stole my weed the last time he was there.

"They are always fighting but they might be a good team to work together, and maybe it would be good if they did join forces."

The star added: "When you get a character who you maybe haven't always been involved with but you know it's gonna be a huge positive for the show, it's going to be huge.

"For the audience it's so important, and it's someone they're loud over. I knew that they would be over the moon and I'm so happy for them."

Last month, Robert actor Ryan Hawley confirmed he would be back permanently, telling The Mirror: "My character is returning permanently and not just for Aaron and John's wedding. I am back for good, and I am so excited to be playing Robert again."
