It seems to be something that the writers have just forgotten about. I know that if you are at a certain level in the drugs trade it is very difficult to get out. The people who bring the drugs into the country do not want to deal with the end users. They want to divide their drugs up into smaller packages, which they asign to "wholesalers" who then divide it further or deal directly with the users. If you are at wholesale level, you are at the top of a chain. If you want to stop and get out, you not only remove your self but your whole chain. The people at the very top will not like this. I knew someone who smoked cannabis, so he started to buy some extra and sell it on to friends, for a profit, that way he was getting his personal use free. Over a number of years, he changed from being a "hippie type," getting his smoke free, to being at the top of quite a large chain. Then he was offered some cocaine and repeated the process, but now he was dealing with hard-core criminals not other hippies. When he wanted to stop there was no way the top guys would let him, as they did want to lose his chain. He wanted to buy a hotel and become legit, but how would he explain having that much money to HMRC, when to them he was an unemployed bricklayer. On one occasion I saw well a quarter a million pounds piled up on a table. But this is working capital, so cannot be spent, even without the HMRC problem. By this time it was affecting his health, he had an ulcer, he had weapons, knives and clubs hidden all over his house, in case some other dealers tried to rip him off or steal his money. Eventually the police put his door in in the early hours, and I think he found it a relief to go to prison. At last he was out. The drugs "business" is no different from legitimate businesses like selling soap, beans or TVs, just the legality of it. Soap's tend to over simplify it. I would imagine Ravi is still in "business" we just do not see it, until the script demands it.
