Has Bethany completely recovered from sepsis now. She did not seem to display any noticable symptoms. Soon after she woke up she was talking to Sarah quite rationally despite having a Stoma fitted. Was this a realistic portrayal of someone with sepsis?

Does not matter what illness someone in soapland has, one minute on life support the next minute speaking normally, coherently, moving around without visible signs of discomfort....

I read that the UK Sepsis Trust were grateful that the story would raise awareness of sepsis. But from what I saw the, although it did not trivialise it, the portrayal on Corrie could give the impression that it was not a serious affair.

Viewers however need to realise that it is a drama show, reflecting certain true life situations but not to every little bit. I think some folk forget that.... yes, certain things are totally unrealistic and certainly out of time frame (appointments with docs and specialists etc) but soap operas are there to present a drama played by actors

All this is very true, but when important matters of health are concerned I think they need to make a bit of extra effort. If they hadn't mentioned that Bethany had sepsis, I don't think anyone would have known otherwise, as we did not really see any sign of it. Some viewers do take these scenes as being realistic, some even think characters are real people. If this means some get the idea that sepsis is not really a serious, dangerous illness it could leave them not seeking treatment for themselves or others. After all they do drag out some less serious stories, sometimes endlessly, it seems..

I get that, totally, but I think with certain medical conditions, like sepsis, symptoms can be so varied so they are very careful not to go too much into details.. in the end, again, viewers awareness has been raised but they should talk to professionals to find out more if they are concerned. The same that they never mention any benefits people could claim... too subjective and can change any time so easier to show a struggling Ches and Gemma with 5 kids than to show them getting social security...
