I am not sure what we were meant to take from the scene where Mason pulled the knife. It seemed like he scared himself as much as he scared Liam. When you pull a knife on someone you must be prepared to use it, otherwise keep it hidden. Mason did not look like he was ready to use it, he looked like he regretted pulling it out. If you only show it to scare people, there will come a time when you meet someone who is not scared, and may take it from you and use it against you. There was a moment when it seemed all his bravado and confidence was drained from him, he looked very weak, that was the moment when Liam should have kicked him where it hurts.
