I think this is because he knows who stole it, and did not want too report it. Pretty stupid as how else can he claim on the insurance. Pretty sure the police will catch them a mile or two down the road, then the truth will out.

Most new cars on the road nowadays are leased, with the leasing company covering running costs, excluding fuel. So it does not cost as much as you think, especially if it is a business lease.
