Emmerdale is set to air a new romantic twist for David Metcalfe ahead of his exit from the soap.

It was revealed last month that star Matthew Wolfenden would be leaving the show after 17 years in the role, and now more details of his storyline building up to his departure have been unveiled.

In new scenes set to air on the soap, David is left in a state of reflection regarding his breakup with Victoria last year, and while chatting with Jacob in the shop, he admits his feelings for her are growing again.

However, there is a sense that Jacob is unhappy about this ? is he disapproving of David's chaotic love life, or is there more going on than meets the eye?

David's exit comes as Matthew is reportedly looking for a change-up amid a lack of gritty plotlines for his character recently.

In other Emmerdale romance news, star Rosie Bentham (Gabby Thomas) has spoken about filming sex scenes on the soap, admitting to The Sun recently: "They really aren't that sexy to film.

"It's more about the practicality of the kiss and making sure you get the camera angle right. I can safely say that I've never banged heads with anyone during a kissing scene, but it does happen.

"You can request an intimacy co-ordinator, but I've never needed one. When you're working that closely with someone you become really good mates. It's never weird or awkward, because you're working with them every day and it's just part of the job."

Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has landed his first role since it was confirmed that he would be leaving the ITV soap after 17 years.

The actor, whose upcoming exit as David Metcalfe was announced last month, will return to the stage later this year to play Buddy in the musical adaptation of ELF.

Wolfenden will make his debut at London's Dominion Theatre on November 15, with his stint running until January 6, 2024.

The musical, which debuted in 2010 on Broadway, tells the "funny and charming" tale of Buddy, who is raised in the North Pole as an elf after he accidentally crawls into Santa's sack of toys as baby.

The official synopsis continues: "Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy's enormous size and poor toy-making abilities finally cause him to face the truth and realise he'll never belong in the North Pole.

"With Santa's permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York to find his birth father, discover his true identity and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas."

Tom Chambers, who has starred in multiple soaps over the years such as Father Brown, Holby City, Casualty and Waterloo Road, will reprise his role as Buddy's father Walter Hobbs from the show's 2022 run.

Other cast members include Georgina Castle as Buddy's love interest Jovie, Rebecca Lock as Walter's wife Emily, Nicholas Pound as Santa, Kim Ismay as Debs and Dermot Canavan as the store manager.

ELF marks yet another theatre credit for Wolfenden, who has previously starred in multiple musicals including Sex, Chips and Rock 'n' Roll, Aladdin and Saturday Night Fever.

Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has confirmed a new role, with the actor set to appear in panto Jack and the Beanstalk.

The star, who played David Metcalfe on the ITV soap up until last year, will play the role of Jack in the Sunderland Empire production of the show.

Jack and the Beanstalk will run between December 13 and January 5, 2025 ? and you can get your hands on tickets right here.

Alongside the actor, the production will star Miss Rory as Dame Rorina Trott and Tom Whalley as Silly Simon.

?I am thrilled to be playing Jack in the iconic Jack and the Beanstalk this Christmas," Matthew said.

"Where better to spend Christmas than at the Sunderland Empire, one of the most beautiful theatres in the land. Can?t wait to see you there!?

Since his Emmerdale exit, Matthew has starred in the musical production of classic Christmas movie Elf, playing the role of Buddy.

He also launched a podcast with fellow Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi last month called Celebrity Side Hustles, which sees the pair "delve behind the scenes to chat with celebrity guests about everything".

Meanwhile, last month Matthew opened up about co-parenting his three children with his ex-wife and Emmerdale co-star Charley Webb, whom he split from last year.

"I think we're still finding our way, the good thing is me and Charley we're still best mates," he told Loose Women.

"That's fantastic. It's all quite new to us still at the moment but we're still finding our feet, finding a way to do it and do it well. I think we are."
