If Rita was able to bang on the floor, why did she not use the SOS code, even dim Gail might have cottoned on that it could not be the pipes ... and when she sat on the floor, could she not wriggle on her bottom to the landline phone, if she has one ... or at least to the front door so she could shout out??

An all together a truly awful episode - every cliche about a lonely old woman at Christmas, alone with a cat talking to herself (or the cat), reminiscing about the past. Phone goes suddenly dead as she is about to press the third 9, no low battery warning. Handy that the back scratcher was to hand. Wincing in pain as she tries to pick up phone with right hand, but later lying on the floor with her head resting on the same arm.
They really have done Helen Worth a disservice with her current material, better if Gail had stayed in Thailand wearing fisherman's pants.
