Prescient timing for this storyline given that the Bishop of Grantham has very recently come out as gay and living with his partner in a celibate relationship.

I find the Church of England's position on this issue confusing, but it seems to me to boil down to the fact that - for C of E clergy - sex should only occur within marriage, but that gay marriage isn't accepted so gay couples must be celibate. However, in reality a blind eye is often turned to clergy who defy this ruling.

What puzzles me about this storyline is that Billy's relationship with Todd is fairly new and they're not married, so why would he rail at the injustice of his position? Surely if he was straight and he'd moved his new girlfriend in that would also be unacceptable? It seems to me that for this storyline to be credible, Billy should be living with and married to a long-term partner.

Caveat: I'm no churchgoer so I might be in over my head on this debate!
