The only logic I can think of at the moment is that they want to create a child with better blood links than Lily, who could've been an actual Branning if they'd waited a few months, but instead has a nobody as a father. One has to wonder why Lily and Tommy were ever invented with 'twists' on who the father was when they just go and make the mothers pregnant again a few years down the line by more important characters. Who's the next return? Little Mo for Billy after Lola leaves so she can get pregnant and right that paternity wrong (Freddie) too?
