Donna probably hasn't told the police about her diagnosis as she wants to retain a normal life for as long as she can.

Life insurance would pay out while the person is still alive I believe. My friend's dad's did. Donna mentioned losing money as the firm folded. She called it compensation for the cancer but maybe it was life insurance? From the circumstances Donna described, it didn't sound to me like she'd get any.

Providing Donna didn't opt out of the police pension scheme there is a very good death in service lump sum paid to next of kin.I'm sure given the circs Kim, her constabulary would have kept her on light non operational duties to enable the above payout.
