Kylie Minogue’s representatives have demanded an apology from the Daily Mail after it claimed the singer had cancelled a 40th birthday tour amid fears for her health.

Minogue had been reported to be preparing for some concerts in 2008 after her creative director William Baker claimed they had started rehearsals.

But the Daily Mail quoted her as saying she would not be performing after doctors decided she was not fit enough to cope with a tour following her recovery from breast cancer.

Record company Parlophone described the story as “highly damaging" and insisted that a tour had never been confirmed, saying: "We would like to make it clear that the report in the Daily Mail that Kylie has cancelled a forthcoming tour on doctor's orders is completely false. When asked, Kylie has said on numerous occasions that she loves touring and that she might tour again in the near future. There were and are no dates currently confirmed."

It continued: "Kylie has not been told by her doctors that touring 'could seriously harm her health'. She did not give the quotes reported in the Mail. And touring is something that she is still considering for the future. Her health remains excellent and she is in the middle of promoting her new single and album.

"Her representatives have asked the Mail to print a prominent apology for the highly damaging story."
