Beth’s nervous energy winds Emma up and whilst attending a disturbance at a house, she manages to upset Emma further by spraying CS gas into her eyes during the arrest of Craig Evans. The officers are stunned when they question Craig and his ex girlfriend, Anna, who claim they broke into the house to take their baby who had been stolen from them.

After picking Anna apart during questioning, DCI Jack Meadows and DI Samantha Nixon discover that her baby wasn’t stolen. Anna has a history of drug abuse and she sold her daughter to a woman called Lesley Bailey who runs an illegal baby selling business, but now having second thoughts about what she has done.

As DCs Terry Perkins and Jo Masters hunt for the missing baby, Jack and Sam go undercover as a married couple unable to have children in order to bust the gang that are selling babies to childless couples.

During the meeting, Lesley shows them photos of the babies on offer and the officers are stunned when they see that they are categorised by ethnic origin and prices. Sam throws herself into the investigation with energy and passion and Jack attempts to prove he is worthy of being DCI. But, during the operation, Jack doubts his ability when he makes a mistake, leaving Sam in danger…
