I'm not an expert in how symptoms of dementia show and at what rate the individual deteriorates, but when Debbie first started showing signs, there were fairly regular occurrences of memory loss, which, indeed, is why she sought medical help. After diagnosis there were also signs of memory loss, but, since then, for a period of weeks if not months, there haven't been any signs or lapses of memory that I can think of.

On a similar theme with Debbie, she is now doing all she can to protect Carl - mother's instinct - but before it became a "thing", she wasn't seen as so supportive, especially at the time of Kevin and Abi's break up.

It's a good thing the scriptwriters are so flexible to fit in with the needs of the producer's whims!
